Vineyards and mountains around Fischingen

This walk crosses the vineyards between Hartberg and Hummelberg, follows the ridge line between the vineyards and the plain, runs alongside the Läufelberg and the Reckholder, skirts around Fischingen and finally leads to a meal at the Fünfschilling inn. Beautiful views along the route towards Alsace, the Jura and the Black Forest.

Description of the walk

Car park at the Fünfschilling farm restaurant at the southern entrance to Fischingen.

(S/E) Head towards the shop entrance. With your back to the road and the farm on your left, head towards the forest and take the first path on the right which runs alongside the car park. At the first fork, keep left. At the next one, turn left. At the hairpin bend, turn right onto a grassy path that curves to the left. Ignore the path going uphill to the left and continue straight on to the end of the path.

(1) At the junction, turn left twice, then right. Stay on this path to the end, ignoring the paths on either side. Turn left and join the tarmac path slightly below. Follow it to the right and stay on this path, ignoring all the paths on the left. Further on, it joins the Wiiwegli. Keep left and arrive at the Kaiserhölzle signpost.

(2) Take the path on the right, cross a copse and stay on this marked path, ignoring the paths on either side, until you cross the ridge road at the Gishübel signpost.

(3) Turn left. At the Auf der Ebene signpost, continue straight on, and do the same at the next fork, until you reach the road linking Fischingen and Schallbach.

(4) Cross the road carefully, then turn right onto it and continue to the Blauenblick signpost 100 metres further on.

(5) Here is a viewpoint overlooking the Blauen. Retrace your steps.

(4) Continue to the right along the dirt track opposite the one you came from. Walk past a boulder and its information board, continue straight on and join the Wiiwegli. Further on is a lovely landscaped picnic area with a magnificent panoramic view. Then walk past the Egringen shooting club’s clubhouse (Schützenhaus) and keep to the left. Please note: for 150 m, our path follows the access road to the shooting club’s clubhouse.

(6) Turn left onto a concrete path that runs between vineyards and orchards. Continue straight on to the crossroads where there are four isolated trees visible from a distance, as well as a picnic area. This is the summit of the Reckholder.

(7) Leave the marked trail and head down to the left. Follow this path as it curves to the left until you reach a fork. Take a slight left-right turn and continue to the end along a grassy path between the vineyards. You’ll come to a tarmac path. Take it to the right then to the left, pass a hut and go straight on to the end of the path. You’ll reach a road; take it to the right.

(8) At the Riedmatten signpost, continue straight on towards Fischingen. Take the path on the left just before the first houses in Fischingen and emerge onto Rue Im Mattenberg. Follow it to the left and go to the end. First turn left then right to take the path that runs alongside the farm. At the end of the path, take the street on the left. 200 metres further on is the car park (S/E).
