Vernamiège - Vercorin

Most of this hike follows the Chemin des Bisses trail. On maps, particularly OpenStreetMap, it is marked as "Chemin des Bisses N°58" or "Col des Planches Vercorin". At each major junction, you will find signposts with the number 58 on a green background. View this image

(S) From Vernamiège church, head north-west and follow the main road for 300m, then turn right onto the Zinalette path.

(1) At the hairpin bend, take the path towards Nax. Return to Nax, overlooking the road and, further down, the Rhône valley at Sion. Cross Nax, following the signs for No. 58. Pass in front of the shopping centre (Adonis centre).

(2) Continue east for about 300 metres on the road until you reach a fork.

(3) Turn left at the sign for "N°58" and Swin Golf Nax. After the golf course, the road becomes a path. Walk through the forest on the Chemin des Bisses N°58 and cross a track.

(4) Turn right onto the track and gradually enter the Réchy valley, following the "Col des Planches Vercorin" trail. Cross a small bridge over the Rèche at the junction with the Route des Mayens de Réchy.

(5) Begin the tedious climb up the Route des Mayens de Réchy (average gradient of 20% over 2 km). This difficult section will soon be forgotten, as the reward awaits at the bottom of the valley and, above all, along the Vercorin bisse. The gradient eases as you approach the Rèche.

(6) The original trail is closed by a high gate; take the detour along the track on the left.

(7) Rejoin the Bisses trail (58) after about 500m on this track. You will quickly reach the bottom of the Réchy valley. Take the time to admire the waterfall in the distance.

(8) Change direction and head north for a possible stop at the Towpath refreshment bar.

(9) Pass the refreshment bar and begin the pleasant walk along the Bisse de Vercorin. Continue along this peaceful canal until you reach the Refuge du Bisse.

(10) From the refuge, follow the signs for "Chemin N°58" to the entrance of the village of Vercorin. At the first chalets, turn left towards the Route des Tsablots.

(11) Go down Route des Tsablots, enter Vercorin, pass the post office (street on the right) and arrive in front of the Hôtel des Mayens.

(12) Head towards the centre and after 70 metres, look for the Orzival cul-de-sac.

(13) At the end of the cul-de-sac, you will arrive at your accommodation for the night: L'hostellerie d'Orzival (E).
