Vernamiège - Vercorin

Most of this hike follows the Chemin des Bisses. On maps, particularly OpenStreetMap, it is marked as “Chemin des Bisses No. 58” or “Col des Planches Vercorin”. At every major junction, you will find signposts bearing the No. 58 symbol on a green background. View this symbol

(S) From the church in Vernamiège, heading north-west, follow the main road for 300m, then turn right onto the Zinalette path.

(1) At the hairpin bend, take the path towards Nax. Return to Nax, overlooking the road and, further down, the Rhône Valley at Sion. Cross through Nax, following the signposts marked No. 58. Pass in front of the shopping centre (Adonis Centre).

(2) Continue for about 300m eastwards along the road until you reach a Fork in the road.

(3) Turn left following the sign for “No. 58” and also Swin Golf Nax. After the golf course, the road becomes a path. Walk through the forest along the Chemin des Bisses No. 58 and cross a track.

(4) Turn right onto the track and gradually enter the Réchy valley, following the “Col des Planches Vercorin” path. Cross a small bridge over the Rèche at the junction with the Route des Mayens de Réchy.

(5) Begin the gruelling climb up the Route des Mayens de Réchy (average gradient of 20% over 2 km). This arduous section will soon be forgotten; the reward lies at the bottom of the valley and, above all, along the Vercorin bisse. The gradient eases as you approach the Rèche.

(6) The original path is blocked by a high gate; take the diversion along the track on the left.

(7) You’ll rejoin the Bisses trail (58) after about 500m on this track. You’ll reach the bottom of the Réchy valley very quickly. Take a moment to admire the waterfall in the distance.

(8) Change direction and head northwards for a possible stop at the towpath refreshment bar.

(9) Walk past the refreshment bar and begin the pleasant stroll along the Bisse de Vercorin. Follow this peaceful canal to the Refuge du Bisse.

(10) From the refuge, follow the signs for “Chemin N°58” to the entrance to the village of Vercorin. At the first chalets, turn left towards the Route des Tsablots.

(11) Walk down Route des Tsablots, enter Vercorin, pass the post office (street on the right) and arrive in front of the Hôtel des Mayens.

(12) Head towards the centre and, after 70m, look out for Impasse d’Orzival.

(13) At the end of the cul-de-sac, you will reach your accommodation for the night: L'hostellerie d'Orzival (E).
