Description of the route

Start from La Chaiserie guesthouse in Romeries.

(S) With your back to the guesthouse, turn left onto Rue de la Chaiseraie, then right onto Rue Brabant, then left onto Rue du Quesnoy, then right onto Rue Paul Bisiau. At the four-way junction, continue straight ahead towards Vertigneul
Enter the Avesnois Regional Nature Park via Rue de Romeries in Vendegies-Bois

(1) At the T-junction, turn right onto Grand Rue and continue along this main road. Then follow Rue du Cateau and look out for the Château de Vendegies-au-Bois on your right

(2) At the fork in the road, turn left onto Rue du Vivier.

(3) At the junction with Chaussée Brunehaut (D932), continue straight on along Rue de Vendegies, passing the Ruisseau des Harpies on your right. In Bousies, continue straight on along Rue Victor Hugo.

(4) At the junction with Rue de Robersart, turn right, then take thefirst left (D43) onto Rue de Landrecies, which becomes Rue de Bousies.

(5) Pass the church at Fontaine-au-Bois (on your left). Continue straight on (D43) along Rue de Landrecies, then Route de Fontaine until you reach Faubourg Soyères

(6) At the roundabout, take thesecond exit on the right, Avenue de la Marne, cross the railway bridge, then the bridge over the Canal de la Sambre à l’Oise.

(7) Turn left and take the road on the right, Rue Paul Deloffre, then straight on, Rue du Cerf. Go round the Place de la Mairie on the right and pass the town hall and the Statue of Dupleix. Continue straight ahead, Rue des Nobles, carry on straight after this and, at the end, turn right onto Boulevard André Bonnaire.

(8) At the junction, turn left onto Avenue Villars, then continue along Faubourg de France.

(9) Pass the military cemetery and take the road on the left just after the left-hand bend.

(10) Turn left onto Chemin du Préseau. Follow this road until you reach a three-way junction.

(11) Turn left onto Chemin de Bruneau, which becomes Chemin Dame Marguerite. Pass the Catillon farm on your left and continue to the next junction.

(12) Continue straight ahead.

(13) Pass the Moulin des Près and then the Croix Robosse bridge over the Helpe Mineure.
Continue straight on along Rue du Lieutenant.

(14) In the centre of the village of Maroilles, turn right and head down Grand Rue. Take thesecond left, Rue du Moulin, then pass the famous Moulin de Maroilles. Continue straight on along Rue de la Basse.

(15) At the fork in the road on the outskirts of Basse Maroilles, turn left, then left again onto Chemin Haie de la Ville.

(16) At the junction, turn left onto Chemin Hazard, then immediately right onto Aie Madeleine. You will reach a crossroad (D232).

(17) Turn left onto Route de Cartignies, then continue straight on along Rue de Maroilles until you reach a four-way junction in the centre of Grand Fayt.

(18) Continue straight ahead (D232), note the church on the right and carry on along Rue de Petit-Fayt. Then follow Rue du Village and pass the church at Petit-Fayt (on the right). Continue straight on along this Fayt road (D232) until you reach the junction with Route de Prisches (D964).

(19) Cross Cartignies via Rue du Grand-Rieu, then continue straight on along Place Fernand Wargnie and Rue Roger Lebon.

(20) After passing Helpe Mineure, turn right onto Route d’Avesnes.

(21) At the junction, continue along this main road (D424), which then becomes Route de Cartignies. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead

(22) At the Alouette junction, turn left and continue to the D962. Cross with care, then take the first road on the right towards the village of Saint-Hilaire-sur-Helpe. At the next junction, turn right onto Rue du Château Gaillard and head for Les Mout’ânes guesthouse, No. 1, Rue du Château Gaillard (S/E).
