Épône heritage and Mézières-sur-Seine wash houses

The walk starts in the car park of Épône Town Hall, 90 Avenue du Professeur Émile Sergent.

(S/E) As you leave the car park, turn right onto Avenue du Professeur Émile Sergent, then take the^second left onto Rue Édouard Jumantier, which curves to the left. Continue to the right along Rue de la Brèche until you reach the church, ignoring Rue d’Antar on your left.

(1) Take Rue du Pavé on the right until you reach the entrance to the castle grounds.

(2) Enter the park and take the path on the right to reach the Temple of David. Walk a few metres to the left of the temple to climb a small flight of steps and turn immediately left, so as to return to the park entrance after passing the sheepfold on your left.

(2) On leaving the park, turn right into Rue du Pavé, walk past the Résidence du Château and, at a bend, continue straight ahead onto Chemin aux Étoiles (marked with red and white markings on a no-entry sign). Continue to the D130, ignoring any side roads.

(3) Cross the road carefully and head straight on into Rue de la Villeneuve (marked with red and white). Walk past a school, then, at a Fork in the road, turn right to reach a roundabout. Go through the roundabout and take Rue des Roberdes. Just past number 17, turn left onto a small path, cross Rue Auguste Renoir and continue along the path.

(4) At this fork in the road, take the right-hand path which leads into a small wood. Just past the last house on the left, cross a junction of paths then ignore all the small side paths to stay on the wide path which turns left, running alongside a field on the right.

(5) At this crossroads, turn right, then ignore a path branching off to the right and, at the next junction, turn left. At the T-junction, turn right and do the same at the next one. Continue straight ahead to emerge a little further on into a street.

(6) Turn right onto the Grande Rue, which goes downhill and then bends left (yellow markings), leading to the Rue Nationale, which you should take to the right.

(7) Immediately turn right onto Rue de la Fontaine Lubin, leaving Rue Furet on your left, then, at the end, continue along a path (yellow markings) to reach a tarmac track. Turn left, past some houses, until you reach the church.

(8) Turn right onto Rue Nationale. Take the^first right, Rue Émile Zola, then follow the path that continues from it. At the junction with Ruelle des Crons, turn right and head up the yellow-marked Chemin des Crons, across a meadow.

(9) Pass a water tank on your right and continue straight ahead on the PR® until you reach a road. Continue to a T-junction where you turn left into Rue du Fourneau.

(10) Cross the D130 with care and climb a flight of steps to reach the Chemin des Sources, which you’ll take to the left. Pass a wash house and continue along Rue des Ligneux to number 31.

(11) Immediately afterwards, turn right onto a path that will curve to the left. Continue until you pass a green metal gate on your left and, directly opposite, take the small passage leading to a wall. Go down to the left until you reach a Fork in the road, turn right to walk alongside a wall on your right, then you’ll come out onto Rue des Sous Boutillettes. At the next junction, keep right and follow Rue de la Brèche to the church.

(1) Turn slightly left. Then follow Rue Fournier to the left until you reach Avenue du Professeur Émile Sergent. Cross the avenue and follow it to the left until you reach the Town Hall car park on your right. (S/E).

On leaving the station, take Boulevard Renard Benoit until you reach Avenue du Professeur Émile Sergent, which you will cross to take Rue Édouard Jumantier opposite.

Saint-Nicolas Church
The church of Mézières was donated in 970 to the chapter of Notre-Dame de Paris. The nave and bell tower of the present building date back to the 13th century. The chancel was remodelled in the 16th and 17th centuries

(8) Alternative route to see the fresco ‘The Child and the Hummingbird’ (2023) on a wall of the town hall – 250m round trip – Turn left and then immediately right onto Rue Fricotté.

(1) This alternative route allows you to discover the final “Historic Épône” information panels. (1.2 km)
Continue right onto Rue Charles de Gaulle. Then cross the Place du Marché to the right and take Rue de la Tricherie to the right, Rue de Montfort to the left, Rue Roulette to the right and turn left twice to rejoin Rue Charles de Gaulle, which you will follow to the church.
Turn right into Rue Fournier, right again into Rue de la Geôle, left into Rue de la Porte de la Ville and finally left into Avenue du Professeur Émile Sergent, which you will cross at the pedestrian crossing.
Continue left until you reach the Town Hall car park on your right.
