I completed this hike in July in one and a half days, but I’m a thru-hiker (having completed the PCT and CDT). An experienced hiker could easily do it in two and a half days.
A lovely hike with magnificent scenery. I was accompanied by marmots and chamois :-)
No particular difficulties:
The first section gets you up to speed; the elevation gain is spread out over the whole route, with few very steep sections. A long descent awaits you on the way to Chiappera.
There’s a water point before Chiappera (campsite) and a fountain in Chiappera itself.
The climb up to the Chambeyron refuge will really make you feel your quadriceps; you’ll be on a gradient of around 16 per cent for several hours. Please note: once you start the ascent of the pass, there are no places to camp until you reach Barenghi. There is a refuge halfway up, but it’s closed.
From the Chambeyron refuge onwards, apart from one pass, the route becomes easy going, with no further difficulties.
