Park near Lac des Hermines. Opposite the post office or car park, look for the swimming pool.
(S/E) Head downhill to the south-east, turning right at the roundabout.
(1) Walk along the lake on your left until you reach an inn.
(2) At the inn, turn right onto a path (Super Besse) that goes around it.
(3) At the next crossroads, take the path that climbs to the left.
Stay on the wide main path until you reach the Seignavoux cross (1509m).
(4) Continue to the Col de Couhay (1676m), passing under the ski lift line. Here you will find theGR® 4 and 30 trails, marked in red and white.
(5) Take theGR® opposite. At the next fork, turn left onto the single track path that leads directly to Col de la Cabane (1781m), passing under another ski lift.
(6) As you follow this path, you will see Puy de Sancy in the distance opposite.
Take the path on the left that winds its way up to the summit of Puy de Sancy (1883m).
(7) Descend the wooden stairs to Pas de l'Âne.
(8) Follow a single track path on the left, the technical difficulty and danger of which is indicated at the start. This passage can be tricky but does not present any particular difficulties. You will come out at the Col de Courre (1781m).
(9) Take the path that descends to the right towards the Mont-Dore resort. The path descends steeply at the beginning and ends at the Mont-Dore resort (1333m).
(10) Go around the resort on the right, pass the car park, then climb south-east along the path beside the "Pan de la Grange" ski slope, which is theGR®4Emarked in red and white.
(11) Pass under the chairlift (the Serpent waterfall is 200m further on to the left). Continue past the Dore waterfall and reach the Col de la Cabane.
(6) At the pass, take the path on the left. Return to the Col de Couhay.
(5) Take the path on the left (GR®4). Pass by the Perdrix cable car. This path offers beautiful views of the Chaudefour valley below.
Follow the signs for Super-Besse to return to the starting point (S/E).
