(S/E) From the small car park at the Gabariers pub-restaurant, walk along the Charente on your right and pass under the bridge. At the small car park (the port), head towards the village along the road. At the first intersection, turn left into a small cul-de-sac.
(1) When you reach the wash house, continue along the grassy path that curves upwards. Join a good access path to a house and continue straight ahead.
(2) Cross the small road and continue straight ahead on the road, which is still tarmac for a few hundred metres before giving way to a good path. Pass an orientation table with a view of the Charente valley. Continue to an intersection, then turn right between the vineyards.
(3) When you reach a road (D14), make a first turn right then left to find yourself on a small road. Leave it after a hundred metres for a grassy path on the right. Follow this path for almost 2 kilometres, passing a small house. Then, when you reach a road, cross it and continue straight ahead.
(4) At the power line, turn left underneath it.
(5) Keep left along the power line, cross a small road and arrive at Tourtron. In the middle of the hamlet, turn left into the small street, then at a garage, leave the road and take a grassy path on the right. This path descends along a small wall and into the forest.
(6) Turn right before reaching the road onto a grassy path that leads back to the road. Follow it and bounce back onto the road to continue to the right, where the path climbs. Return to the tarmac and follow this small road, keeping to the left. Cross a road and continue straight ahead on the small tarmac road until you reach the hamlet of L'Étang. Continue to the right on a good path.
(5) Turn completely left onto a good path and continue straight ahead. When you reach a road (D72), follow it straight ahead for about 100 metres, then turn completely right towards Plançon. Stay on the tarmac road as you cross the hamlet.
(7) At the last building, continue a few metres along a path, then turn right along a hedge. The path enters the forest, then alternates with the edge of the forest. At a T-junction, turn right to leave the forest and find yourself in the middle of the vineyards.
(8) At a copse near the road, turn left onto a good path between the vineyards. Cross a small road then turn right before the path enters the forest.
(9) When you reach Les Pellières, on the small tarmac road, turn left, then left again and a third time left into the business park. Cross it and continue straight ahead, along the forest.
(10) At a large crossroads, turn right, cross a small road and continue straight ahead. Leave the forest and, at the edge of a new forest, turn right onto a good path.
(11) You will reach a road (D14) at a place called Chez Touchard. Cross it and take the small passageway just opposite, between the houses. Continue along the grassy path until you reach a small road, take it on the right, then turn left towards La Forgerie. In the hamlet, follow the first bend to the left, but when the street turns right, continue straight ahead and walk along the building (you may need to push a metal sheet blocking the path to the chickens). Continue along this path between low walls until you reach a large path. Turn right, pass a street on your left and you will reach a small road.
(12) Take it on the right, pass a first road on the right and, at the next intersection, cross the road to continue on a good path towards a small wood. At the first large crossroads, turn left, cross a road (D72) and then take the second road on the right a few metres before leaving it on the right for the reservoir path.
(13) At the road, turn left towards Saint-Simeux. At the two intersections, go straight ahead; the balcony road offers a beautiful view of the Charente. At the church, climb up to its forecourt via a small path. Cross the church forecourt and continue along the small street to reach a square. Turn right to descend the main street heading south. Pass several small roads on the right and one on the left. Shortly after the latter, turn right onto a small, steeply sloping path. Cross a small road and continue downhill opposite on a grassy path. Facing a small stone wall, turn left to find the small wash house (1).
To return to the starting point, after the wash house, continue along the small street until you reach the intersection, then turn right. You will come back to the port and the banks of the Charente, which you should follow until you reach the Gabariers car park (S/E).
