Description of the walk

Park in the Manchet chairlift car park south of Val d'Isère.

(S/E) Head south along the wide track and you will quickly reach a trail junction.

(1) Keep right on the trail, leaving the track here. Follow the Calabourdane stream. Cross it on the footbridge. Begin a series of switchbacks to reach a new track.
Turn left onto it to reach a new crossroads near the stream.

(2) Turn right and walk along the left bank of the stream. Cross the hamlet of Sur le Piche. At the exit, you will find a new Y-shaped trail junction.

(3) Take the right-hand branch, which runs along the left bank of the Ruisseau du Charvet. You will reach the confluence with the Ruisseau de la Grande Tête.

(4) Continue along the left bank of the Charvet stream, cross several torrents and then cross to the right bank of the Charvet stream.

(5) Continue climbing until you reach the highest point, which offers a beautiful view of Mont Blanc. Begin a short descent to reach a small lake.

(6) Continue the descent heading due east, then due south. Reach the Pissets crossroads.

(7) Change direction here to head due north and discover the Saut du Pisset.

(8) Continue along the left bank of the Ruisseau du Pisset. Pass the Chalet du Riondet before crossing the Ruisseau de Charvet again and returning to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(3) Take the same route as on the way there to the right and return to the stream crossroads.

(2) Turn right, cross the Pisset stream, continue along the track, cross the Calabourdane stream at Manchet and return to the original crossroads.

(1) Turn right onto the original path to return to the Manchet chairlift car park (S/E).

Notes

Note on this hike: The circular route around Mont Roup can be done in either direction. The route presented here is done counterclockwise, as described by Charvet. The climb is slightly steeper but potentially more shaded depending on the time of day. The other direction, known as the Pissets route, allows you to spread out the climb a little more with beautiful views of the Saut du Pisset.

Very beautiful hike. At point 3, we took the right path. The climb is very steep. We didn't see Mont Blanc.
The Pisset waterfall, with its double flow, is remarkable.

A beautiful hike, take the climb up the small path, which is less strenuous than the road.
The lakes are clearly visible in early July, and the Pisset waterfall is magnificent.

Hello, thank you to the author for the idea... A route, well marked on site. We didn't see anyone all day! The mountain was just for the two of us, my wife and me. As a bonus, we encountered about thirty griffon vultures just before the Charvet chalet. What a thrill! They were less than 100 metres away on the mountain pasture. Superb photos. We pushed on to the Col de la Rocheure. The last 100 metres of elevation gain were tough and made tricky by snow and ice. As a result, we didn't want to go back down that way, so we did the big circular route via Fond des Fours and descended via the Fond des Fours refuge. No regrets, as it was a monumental and beautiful route. 10 hours out, 8 hours walking, 24.5 km and 1,267 metres of elevation gain... We encountered three chamois before the Fonds des Fours refuge. Of particular note was the fantastic section between the Col de la Rocheure and Fond des Fours, a long walk between 2,900 and 2,950 m, with the Fours glacier on one side and the perfectly clear Mont Blanc massif on the other. Then there was the equally fantastic descent from Fond des Fours to the Arsellaz farm. In short, it was a wonderful hike, especially in this extended version.

Very well marked route and a must-do hike
Splendid scenery and lots of marmots
Just a tip: at point three, if you're good at climbing, go right; otherwise, go left. The climb is less steep, but the descent is steeper.

Thank you for this route
Not too busy at the beginning of August, later in the day
When I started the circular, I realised too late that there was a winding path parallel to the uphill track. You have to walk a few dozen metres along the return track to join it.
At the Pisset crossroads, you can make a round trip to the Col de la Rocheuse, which takes 1 hour to climb, adding 300 metres of elevation gain to the smaller peak on the left.
Nice view of a small lake below and a nearby mountain range with snowfields.
The climb is fairly easy but quite steep at the end.
Thanks again.

A very pleasant hike on an easy, well-marked trail in the Vanoise National Park among marmots. We followed the route described in the guidebook and were delighted by this outing dotted with streams and small lakes. Once there, the numerous signposts make it unnecessary to consult the guidebook, making this a relaxing walk. Many thanks to the author of this hike for giving us the idea and the details.

Stunning scenery, the waterfalls are magnificent. Lots of greenery, marmots all along the route, crossing little bridges... Definitely worth doing. 😊
