The hamlet of Roya is located a few kilometres from the village of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée. At Le Bourguet, leave the main road towards Roya by taking a bridge, then a narrow road for about 6 km. When you reach the hamlet, park in the car park at the foot of the church, which is the starting point for the hike.
GR®5 Red and White markings
(S/E) From marker 137, follow theGR® trail down towards the river, heading towards "Tour du Mont Férant".
(1) Once you have crossed the bridge, the trail first winds its way up through the forest, then the slope quickly levels out and crosses the mountain pastures.
End ofthe GR®, markedPR® Yellow
(2) When you reach a hut (marker 110), leave theGR® and take the short hiking trail that climbs to the right and is marked in yellow.
(3) At this point, the path branches off to the left in a way that is not very visible. If you miss the junction and see a yellow cross, you will need to retrace your steps for about ten metres to find the path again. You will need to be vigilant for a few hundred metres, as the markings (yellow marks and cairns) are more difficult to spot.
The path then becomes very well marked thanks to a double row of stones lining the route.
(4) When you reach Crête de la Faysse, go around Mont Férant and climb gently up to Col de Crous, where you will probably come across a herd grazing.
(5) At Col de Crous, begin the descent towards the north-west to Vallon de l'Alp.
(6) Once you reach the bottom of the valley, the trail changes direction and heads northeast to join the Vallon de Roya. Follow the bed of a small stream until you reach a wooden bridge, which you must cross, then climb the trail to marker 142.
(7) Then turn right and follow the forest track to marker 140, where you will find a chapel and a small car park.
(8) Continue straight ahead and you will reach the hamlet of Roya and the car park where you started (S/E).
