The car park for this hike is next to Laffrey town hall.
(S/E) To reach the trail, leave the car park, take the RN85 (Route Napoléon) on the left and continue for about 50 metres until you see the trail on the left. There are hiking signs and yellow markings along almost the entire route.
After a short climb, you will come to a small road which you should follow to the right. Leave two roads on your right and you will come to a fork.
(1) Take the path that climbs up to the left and leads to the hamlet of Les Pras.
(2) Take the road on the left towards Les Crêts or Creys, depending on the spelling on the direction signs. After a little over 200 m, cross the departmental road (D113) and take the path opposite that climbs uphill. From there, follow the yellow markings on the trees as the path is not easy to follow.
The climb is not very long, and you will quickly reach Les Crêts (Creys), where you will have a clear view of the lakes and surrounding mountains.
(3) When you reach the Col du Nizet, take a good track on the left that descends towards Saint-Théoffrey. At the bottom of the descent, you will come out onto the RN85. Take it to the right towards the hamlet of Pétichet.
(4) At the traffic lights, turn left and immediately afterwards take the path on the left downhill (no entry sign). Follow this path and then walk alongside the campsite. You will arrive at the water sports centre and then at Bergogne beach. This part of the route is not signposted. Follow the road along the beach. It turns right and starts to climb.
(5) At the crossroads in the hamlet of La Bergogne, turn left. This part of the walk is on a tarmac road but there is very little traffic. Follow it until you reach the departmental road (D115A), which you should take opposite, downhill. Leave a road on your left at the bend marked on the right and continue for about 400m.
(6) Look for the yellow markings and hiking signs. Take the path on the right.
(7) After 300 m, turn right again towards Laffrey village. Turn left at the next fork and continue to a T-junction.
(8) Ignore the road and continue along the path opposite. You will arrive at the shore of Lac Mort, an artificial lake owned by EDF. Follow the lake and cross the road.
(9) Take the path opposite that climbs into the woods.
(10) At the three-way junction, turn left, pass two turnings on the right and then another on the left and continue towards Laffrey village. When you reach the RN85, turn left and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
