Tour du Chastellan

The walk takes place largely through woodland. Personally, I prefer to do it in the morning in spring, as it isn’t too hot yet.

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the car park, next to the École Désirée Clary.

(S/E) Leave the car park by turning right onto Rue Jean Mineur and then left onto Rue Saint Jean, continuing for about 250 metres.

(1) Turn onto the small path on the left. Follow it for about 80 metres until you reach the bend.

(2) Follow the path on the right. From this point to the summit, the walk takes place almost entirely through woodland. With a little patience and quiet, you may hear and spot several animals. Follow the path running alongside the road (D29) to marker no. 83.

(3) Turn right and begin the ascent, which is quite steep in places. Reach the highest point.

(4) You’ll see the airfield on your right. Continue to the right along the descending path until you reach a junction.

(5) Take the path leading down to the right. Join the road. Follow it to the right until you reach a junction where the road meets a track (mobile phone mast).

(6) Carry on straight ahead, veering slightly to the right, along the path that descends across the field and joins the D28. Follow it to the right for 50 metres, then turn left to reach the (S/E).

Pleasant hike. Much of it through the woods. Easy to follow as part of the route follows the signs to Péone. When heading back up towards the golf course, follow the route as it crosses several other hiking trails.
Stop at the bar near the golf course, which has a pleasant terrace and friendly owner.
If you want, there is a shuttle bus in season that goes from the golf course to Valberg.
I'll try doing it the other way round, taking the shuttle and then hiking back.
The hikers we met were all going in the opposite direction.

An easy and enjoyable walk – a bit of a climb at the start and a lovely stretch through the woods, with a stunning view halfway through. The descent is rather unremarkable but quick...

A very pleasant walk; the climb is mainly through the woodland, so we didn’t get too hot, even in August.
At point 1, the path that veers off to the left is almost completely straight but allows you to leave the main road, which then heads off to the right.
Thank you for this route
