Car park at the Glass Museum.
(S/E) From the Domaine de la Verrerie, between Carmaux and Saint-Benoît-de-Carmaux, take the D90 (Avenue Jean Jaurès, markedGR®36red and white) to the right, until you reach the roundabout. Cross at the pedestrian crossing (take care, heavy traffic) and follow the track to the right, towards Découverte (GR®36).
(1) At the three-way junction, continue straight ahead, keeping as close to the road as possible. Cross a culvert (small bridge) and turn right, leaving theGR® markings, onto a shaded path until you reach the D3. Follow this footpath to the end.
(2) Turn sharply left onto a wide track. At the next junction, rejoin theGR® and follow it to the right. Go under a first bridge, turn right and, after going under a second bridge, leave theGR® and head straight up the road. As the road descends, find a small path on the right.
(3) Turn right onto this path (marked by a Blue Circle sign) and continue straight on. Curve southwards to pass to the left of the lake. Continue until you reach a path on the right, just before the road.
(4) Head up to the right; the path winds upwards to reach the Carbonifère park. After a hairpin bend, at a junction with another track, continue straight ahead. At the next fork, turn left onto the small road. Continue, keeping the pond on your right. At the next fork, turn right onto the road, which soon turns into a track. At the next junction, continue along the track, keeping to the right. Pass the wooden steps on your left, go past the large Bucyrus tree and continue straight on to reach the Parc des Titans.
(5) Turn right to join the tarmac track; further down, ignore the path on the left and take the path on the left that runs alongside this track. At the next fork in the tracks, take the left-hand track for 200 m, then the right-hand track, and continue along this shaded path that runs alongside the stream to the edge of the pond
(6) Turn onto the path, skirting the pond on the left, follow a track to the right for a few metres, then continue left at the fork. Cross the D73 to the left (take care, heavy traffic) and take the path opposite which climbs up alongside a meadow.
(7) Turn left onto a gravel track (sign with a red circle on a white background), at a place called Les Bruyères, continue straight on along this track and take the road on the right, Rue du Brugayrac, to the Bellevue housing estate.
(8) At the bottom of this street, continue to the right until you reach Rue Emile Matthieu, which you follow, ignoring the streets on the right.
(9) Continue along Rue Emile Matthieu, followed by Rue Brugayrac; keep turning right, following Rue Louis Coutouly until you reach Allée Saint-Louis, which you take to the right.
Ignore all the streets on the right and take the one on the left, Rue Simone Trouche. At the end of this street, go down to the right for 50 m, then immediately left. Pass in front of the municipal buildings and turn right to join an old track
(10). Turn right onto Rue Combeguise, follow it to the left and continue along Rue Paul Vialar until you reach the D90, then return to the Glass Museum (S/E).
