Leave Carmaux via the D988, then turn left towards Canitrot, and finally right: signpost indicating the Roucarié dam. Park in the car park below the road.
Signpost at the start. This route can be walked in either direction.
(S/E) At the car park exit, take the track to the right and walk to the footbridge without crossing it.
(1) Continue straight ahead on the path (Blue Dragonfly), on the left bank of the dam. Walk for about 1.4 km and pass under the D905 viaduct.
(2) Turn right onto the path leading up to Soulières (signposted).
(3) Take the Route de Soulières on the left for 250 m.
(4) Take the road on the left and head towards the hamlet of Le Rat (signposted).
(5) Turn right and follow the yellow markings along a good path.
(6) At Valats, take the small road on the left towards Le Rastel (signposted). Then join the D905.
(7) Cross it carefully and head straight on along the small path that climbs towards Salveredonde.
(8) In the hamlet of Salveredonde, take the D139 on the left towards the Roucarié dam.
(9) In the middle of the road’s wide left-hand bend, turn right onto a good grassy track.
(10) At the junction with the D139, follow the tarmac road to the right for 100 m.
(11) Continue along the path on the left (signposted) and cross the footbridge to return to the original junction.
(1) After the footbridge, turn right and head for the car park (S/E).
