Park in the car park next to the Durance bridge, 500 metres from the village of Tallard in the direction of Curbans.
(S/E) From the car park, turn left and cross the bridge towards Venterol – Curbans. Continue up the road, pass the first bend with traffic lights, then continue to a T-junction at the corner of a building.
(1) Take the road on the right towards Curbans (ignore the path on the left, which will be the return route), and enjoy the views of the medieval castle on the right. 350 metres further on, the red and white markings ofthe GR®653D trailinvite you to turn left onto a path and start climbing.
(2) After one kilometre, the path crosses another path. Continue straight ahead to find the markings that lead off to the left, parallel to the path you have just crossed.
Very quickly, the path rejoins the small stream (Riou Pierroux), which you must cross to take the path that climbs opposite.
The path is very steep at first, then levels out a little as you approach the forest. When you reach a junction with another track, turn right, then 100 metres further on, turn left at a bend. About 600 metres further on, the track will lead to a junction of several tracks at a large EDF pylon.
(3) Turn left towards Venterol, still on the GR®. The track becomes more pleasant and flatter, turning into a tarmac road as you approach the village of Venterol.
When the road meets another road, at the village hall, turn right uphill and after 150 metres you will come to the D854, at the Les Abrachy sign.
(4) Leave theGR®653Dand turn left onto the road that crosses the village. Join the D854 coming from the right and continue downhill for a good kilometre. Just before a sharp bend, a small staircase leads up to the right to an orientation table. Admire the view, then return to the road and continue downhill to the right for 150 metres to reach a stone parapet.
(5) Leave the road and take the small path that descends steeply to the left just behind the low wall.
The descent, which is a little technical at times, follows the mountain bike tracks on the path and a few cairns in places. As you approach the end of the descent, you can spot the telephone wires (to the left of the hut) and follow them as they run alongside the path you need to find.
The path continues straight ahead to join the D46, turn right onto it and continue to the crossroads between the buildings.
(1) Turn left towards Tallard along the same path to reach the car park (S/E).
