Departure from the Pré Grandemange car park.
(S/E) Follow the road heading north-west towards Pré de la Grange (Green Ring). Pass the houses and, at the intersection, take a sharp right turn to follow the Hats route (Green Ring + Red Disc). At the next intersection, turn left.
(1) At the T-junction, go right towards L'Étang Sauvaget (Red Disc). Stay on the main path, which is marked, and ignore all the side paths.
(2) At the intersection, continue straight ahead (Red Disc), ignore a turn-off on the left and you will soon reach a three-way junction.
(3) Then turn left and, at the next junction, go straight ahead (Blue Cross). Make a few turns on a wide path.
(4) At the end of a sharp left turn, leave the path and take a path uphill on the right (Blue Cross). You will come to a tarmac road; follow it to the right for about 30 metres. Then take a path that climbs to the right (Blue Cross). You will come to a road (cross); follow it to the left.
(5) At a hairpin bend to the left, leave the road and turn right onto a path towards Col de Longeroye (still Blue Cross). Ignore a path on the left and continue to a crossroads.
(6) Turn sharply right towards La Houbette / Les étangs (Yellow Ring).
(7) At La Houbette, take the road that descends to the right towards the ponds (Red Horse). Reach the north-western point of the Étang de la Besace.
(8) Follow the road straight ahead (Red Cross). At the intersection, turn right and when it turns right, follow a path to the left to the Grand Étang. Retrace your steps.
(8) Continue straight ahead and walk along the Étang de la Besace on your left (Croix Rouge). At the end of the pond, at the crossroads at elevation 689, turn right onto a path that leads to the Pont des Rondins (Triangle Bleu).
(9) Leave the path and turn right onto a trail (blue triangle). Stay parallel to the Le Ravage river below on your left.
(10) At the fork, take the left path and descend to Pont du Rondin. Retrace your steps.
(10) Then turn sharply left towards the Étang du Sauvaget (red disc).
(11) Cross the Ruisseau du Thibieu and continue west on the main path (red disc). The path turns north and ends at a crossroads you took on the way there.
(3) Then turn left and immediately ignore a turn-off on the right.
(2) At the next intersection, turn left (Green Ring) and continue straight ahead to the starting point (S/E).
and we don't spend as much time on this type of path. A varied hike, forest, lake, blackberry and mushroom picking, which slowed down the pace of the hike! A lovely hike, very pleasant in summer as there is a lot of forest. It's just a shame about the number of trees on the ground due to the spruce bark beetle...
