The starting point is the car park next to the Bleuforêt sock factory in Zainvillers. Coming from Remiremont and arriving in Zainvillers, turn right onto the double bridge that crosses the Moselotte. Then turn right and park in the car park.
(S/E) Leave the car park and follow the road on the right towards the Voie Verte. Cross it and you will soon reach an intersection.
(1) Follow the road on the left and immediately ignore another road on the right.
(2) At a fork, turn right onto a forest path and follow the yellow disc and green ring markings. Stay on the main marked path for a long time, ignoring all the side paths. Cross the Ruisseau du Solem stream.
(3) About 20 metres further on, turn right onto a path (marked with a yellow circle and green ring). Cross the stream again and climb uphill towards the Balcon du Solem.
(4) At Balcon du Solem, continue left towards Chalet du Solem (do not take the path on the right that winds downhill). Pass the chalet and follow a forest path downhill (marked with a green ring).
(5) You will come to another forest track. Follow it to the right and cross the Ruisseau des Pennecières stream. About 500 m further on, you will see a path starting on the right. Take this narrow path, which descends steeply, and continue to follow the Green Ring markings.
(6) Shortly after the crossroads at elevation 453, turn sharply right (the Green Ring markings have been changed and the IGN map has not been updated here). Descend and you will arrive near a tarmac road (do not take it).
(7) Leave the road, following the Green Ring and then Red Triangle markings. Cross the Ruisseau des Pennecières stream again and, at the crossroads shortly afterwards, take the path furthest to the left (Red Triangle markings). You will come to a small road; follow it to the right.
At the intersection you took at the start of the hike, turn left and cross the Voie Verte. Continue along the road to the car park (S/E).
