The hike starts at the Col de Xiard. Access by car from the village of Thiéfosse. Take the road at the corner of the Auberge du "Joli Coeur" (D43a), turn right just after the bridge, cross the Voie Verte. After a few houses, the road makes a hairpin bend to the left, leaving the road downhill to Zainvillers on your right. Continue along the small main road, ignoring the small turnings. At the last bend on the right (next to an old Vosges farmhouse), there is about 500m of dirt track, which is a little tricky on the last few metres. You can park at the side of this track.
(S/E) The hike starts at the cross just at the Col de Xiard. Take the path on the left when you arrive.
(1) Ignore the path on the right and stay on the beautiful path that passes by a beautiful renovated farmhouse, then continue to a gate. Go through the gate and continue.
(2) A few metres further up, take the path marked with a red cross on the left.
(3) When you reach a forest path, turn left, then 100 m further on, turn right towards Col du Rhamné, still following the Red Cross signs.
(4) Turn left at the entrance to the clearing towards Fousseramont, still following the Red Cross signs, then continue to Col du Rhamné.
(5) Take the path on the right signposted Croix du Lait and marked Chevalet Bleu (be careful not to take the first path on the right with a barrier, but the flat one). Continue along this beautiful path, still following the Chevalet Bleu signs. Ignore two paths that branch off to the right and continue to the Croix du Lait.
(6) Take the first beautiful path on the right signposted Chalet du Fraiteux (no markings).
(7) After rejoining the Anneau Vert signpost coming from the left, continue along this path. Pass under the Chalet du Fraiteux, then ignore a tarmac road on the left.
(8) Be careful, a few hundred metres after leaving the road on your left, leave the path and turn right towards the green and white barrier. This path is no longer marked, but you can't go wrong, there's only one. Enter the Grande Charme peat bog. Do not leave this pathSimply follow the small wooden bridges and leave the capercaillies in peace.
(9) Take a short detour to admire the peat bog from the table.
(10) When you reach the Croix Nicolas, find the marked Red Cross trail that branches off to the left and follow it back to your car (S/E).
