On the Plateau des Atrébates, starting from Frévillers

This is a long route without any major difficulties, apart from the distance. It follows a succession of wide paths and small roads, making it safe to walk even in wet weather. It is therefore ideal from October onwards.

Description of the walk

Departure from Frévillers, town hall car park

(S/E) Join the D74 and follow it on the left.

(1) At the corner of the church, turn left into Rue de La Capelle. Reach the D74.

(2) Cross it and continue straight ahead. Ignore a path coming from the right and reach a crossroads. Continue straight ahead to arrive opposite the woods (Mont de La Comté).

(3) Just before the woods, take the track on the left, then immediately left again. The correct path joins the D 74. Follow it for a few metres on the left to find a path on the right.

(4) Take this path, which eventually descends towards Magnicourt, running alongside the Bois d'Houvelin. You will reach a fork.

(5) Take the path on the left. A pleasant descent through the woods brings you to a crossroads.

(6) Take the second road on the left (Rue des Allobroges). About 150 metres further on, turn right onto a path that leads to the ridge.

(7) At the top, turn right. Follow the ridge path and reach the crossroads. Continue straight ahead on the D83 for 200 metres.

(8) At the three-way junction, leave the main road and take the path on the right. Turn right at a 90° angle and continue for another 1 km.

(9) Don't miss the pretty path on the left (be careful, it's not very visible) which descends towards the Lawe near its source. Cross the stream and follow the small road on the left (Rue de la Lawe). Climb gently, ignoring the turns to the right and left, to reach the first houses of Monchy-Breton, then the D86.

(10) Follow it for about 100 metres on the left before turning left onto Rue de L'Église. At the end, turn left onto the D77 and, 200 metres further on, you will find a path on the right.

(11) Take this path, then turn left onto the first path for a long straight stretch through the fields. You will reach a small road; follow it to the left to reach the D83.

(12) Follow it to the right, pass under a power line (see practical information) and, 200 metres further on, find a good path on the left.

(13) Follow this path to a T-junction. Turn right and you will reach another T-junction.

(14) Take the small road on the left (PR® Chemin des Bosquets).

(15) At the fork, take the right-hand path (still PR®) onto a pretty trail that leads to a crossroads.

(16) Take the track on the left towards Chelers (PR®). Ignore a path on the right and you will come to a fork.

(17) Take the right-hand path (leaving the PR®) and reach the D77. Cross it to take the path opposite. Reach a T-junction.

(18) Take the track on the left, pass Fond de Guestreville (sometimes wet) and join a small road.

(19) Follow it on the left to reach the hamlet of Guestreville. At the crossroads, take the road on the right, then immediately left. Pass in front of "La Hulotte" and reach the water tower.

(20) Take a pretty path on the left, which can be a little difficult in places, leading to a crossroads (oratory).

(21) Follow the small road on the right and head towards Frévillers. At the T-junction, turn left to reach the church immediately.

(1) Continue straight ahead to the town hall.(S/E)

Notes

Make sure you wear sturdy footwear, even though the paths are generally in very good condition.

There may be a water source at the Monchy-Breton cemetery.

After point (12), there is a path that starts on the left under the power line. It ends after about 500 metres. I took it at the end of October 2025 and it was easy to continue along the edge of the fields (clear tractor tracks) to reach a good path. Following it to the right, you will find point (13).
