Starting point of the walking tour: Saarlandstraße underground station
(S/E) We start on Saarlandstraße heading north and take the next left. At the end, we turn left.
(1) A bridge takes us over the Goldbek Canal. We turn right, cross the Südring and turn left, then take the next right. We reach a round basin for model boats, turn right, then take the second right.
(2) We look down on the Stadtparksee natural swimming lake. We turn left, then left again; the path runs parallel to the lake. After the right-hand bend, we turn left and follow the path along the shore of the Stadtparksee. We take the second right, then the fourth right.
(3) We have reached the rose gardens and follow the path straight on to the penguin fountain, where we turn left, then take the next left and left again. We head back along the edge of the rose gardens. At the end, we turn right. At the end of the path, we turn right again.
(4) We have reached the duck pond. At the fork in the path, we make a short detour to the left towards the bridge before continuing to the right.
(5) At the entrance to the City Park Stage, we turn left, then left again.
(6) We have reached a viewpoint overlooking the pond. We continue along the path beside the duck pond and turn right at the end, then left at the next junction.
(7) At the playground, we turn right, then left at the next junction. We cross the next junction straight ahead.
(8) At the next junction, we turn right. The path runs along the edge of the Große Festwiese. We follow the path, cross Otto-Wels-Straße and continue straight ahead on the other side of the road.
(9) We have reached the Planetarium. We turn right at the pond, then take the next left. Then we turn left again, go straight across the next junction, then right again. We go straight across the next junction, past the Hecken-Theater, and turn left at the next junction. At the next star-shaped junction, we take the second right and then the second left. We cross Otto-Wels-Straße.
(10) We pass a statue at Landhaus Walter. Then we turn right, then left at the next junction.
(8) We reach the junction by the Große Festwiese again, which we passed on the way there, and turn right. At the edge of the Große Festwiese, we head back to the shore of the Stadtparksee, where we turn right.
(11) We take a detour to the left onto the bridge to Liebesinsel. Then we turn the second right, then the next left.
(12) We cross the Südring and leave the Stadtpark. The Wiesenstieg takes us past an allotment garden. At the end, we turn right, take the second left, then the next left again.
(13) We reach the Goldbek Canal. We take the next left. We cross Barmbeker Straße.
(14) At Moorfuhrtweg, we turn left, cross the Goldbek Canal and then turn left twice. We now follow the banks of the Goldbek towards the north-east. We cross Barmbeker Straße again, then take the third right. We head south through green spaces until we reach a bridge.
(15) From the bridge over the Osterbek Canal, we have a lovely view towards Kampnagel. We turn left after the bridge and follow the riverbank. At Hufnerstraße, we turn left, then take the next right.
(16) We have reached the Museum of Work with the TRUDE, a huge cutting wheel from the Elbe Tunnel boring machine. There we turn left, passing the restaurant of the same name, Trude, and a Globetrotter branch, towards Wiesendamm, where we turn left.
(17) We pass Barmbek station. At the fork in the road, we keep left, cross Hufnerstraße and then turn right, then left onto a grass verge. At the end, we turn right, then left, crossing the Barmbeker Stichkanal, then Saarlandstraße. We turn right and shortly afterwards reach the Saarlandstraße underground station (S/E).
