(Start) We start our hike through the Höltigbaum Nature Reserve on Eichberg Road. You can park there at the side next to the dog exercise area. We pass the barrier and walk straight ahead.
(1) We reach the Haus der Wilden Weiden, the nature reserve’s information centre. There, we keep to the left, walk a short distance along the pasture and then turn left into the woods.
(2) The path leads us to a small lake, the Wandse retention basin. Birds can often be spotted here. We turn around, keep to the left and walk across a pasture until we reach the wide main path again. Here we turn left and follow the path (marked as a discovery trail with a yellow symbol).
(3) At the crossroads, we go straight on through a gate onto a pasture where Galloway cattle are often to be found. After leaving the pasture, we turn left, cross the Wandse (4) and reach the signposted Gallo-Way circular walk (hiking symbol with a Galloway on a red background). We turn right at the next junction and then immediately right again, cross the Wandse once more and continue to follow the footpath, which leads to the left. At the next opportunity, we turn right and then right again.
(5) We reach a gate and are allowed to walk across a pasture with Galloways once more. Back at the start of the Gallo-Way circular trail, we turn left, walk a short distance back along the familiar path and then turn left onto the Discovery Trail. At the next junction, we walk straight on (the Discovery Trail turns right) and follow the path past fruit trees that bloom beautifully in spring.
(6) The path eventually meets the Discovery Trail again, which we follow to the left along the pasture fence. At the end of the pasture, we turn right and reach the information centre (1) once more.
(Finish) From there, head left back to the car park.
