Description of the walk

Start at the Jean Garnier Stadium car park (photo 1).
Take the path under the trees opposite the steps.
Walk up to the gate (photo 2) along the side of the stadium.
Continue straight ahead and turn left onto the Montporcher track until you reach the Montcenis road (photo 3).
Take the path opposite and follow it to the stadium, then go round it on the left until you reach the road (photo 4 – Rue du Moulin Miroir).
Turn left and continue straight on until you reach the junction on the Route de Marmagne (photo 5).
Cross the road and take the path opposite. After about 100 metres, ignore the path branching off to the left and continue straight on along a path through the woods until you reach Route des Crêtes (photo 6).
Cross the road, take the path opposite and, after a bend to the left, go through the gate (photo 7) and take the often damp path downhill.
Reach the Combes railway line and follow it for about 200 metres.
Take the path up the hill to the left (photo 8) which leads to the Les Combes tourist park, going round the picnic area.
Before reaching the road, veer slightly to the right to reach the orientation table (photo 9).
Continue along the path which descends to the road opposite Les Combes station (photo 10), then, before reaching the road at the electricity pylon, take the path on the right which descends to the railway line.
Follow the track for 200m and turn left (photo 11) to go through the tunnel under the track.
Continue along the path to reach Rue Chaptal and turn left before the road at the sign for the tourist park (photo 12).
Cross the road and take the path just behind the safety barrier (photo 13).
Follow this straight ahead, then slightly to the right, until you reach the barrier leading onto Avenue de l’Europe (photo 14).
Walk up the road for 100m and turn left onto Avenue Jean Monnet (photo 15).
Follow the road and, after a right-hand bend, continue up to the traffic lights (photo 16).
Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing, then take the small staircase (photo 17) between the church and the main entrance to the park.
Walk alongside the castle, passing the cannons, then take the steps at the end of the path.
Turn left and walk along the wall beneath the castle (photo 18). Continue by taking the right-hand bend downhill, then take the path on the left which joins the path below.
Turn right at the bottom of the slope and continue straight on until you reach the animal enclosure.
Turn left, following the fence (photo 19), and continue straight on to go round the second lake.
Walk around it (photo 20) and, before the junction of the two lakes, take the path that climbs up at a 180° angle (photo 21).
After a sharp right-hand bend, continue along the path on the right which runs alongside the swimming pool.
Join the tarmac cycle path (photo 22) until you reach the park entrance (pizza hut and merry-go-round – photo 23).
Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and take Rue Félix Martin at the pharmacy.
Pass four junctions and, after a final steep section (photo 24), cross the road and take the entrance to the Bois des Carrières opposite (photo 25).
Take the path on the right that goes round the woods (photo 26).
Continue straight on until you reach the fourth concrete bench and take the path that descends to the right (photo 27).
After about 50 metres, turn right to reach the clearing (photo 28) and go through the tunnel (photo 29).
Reach Rue des Carrières at the barrier (photo 30).
Turn right and, after the bend (photo 31), take the steps leading to Avenue du Stade Jean Garnier (photo 32).
Cross the road and return to the starting car park.

A lovely walk, with very little tarmac despite its urban setting, and magnificent views of the town and the surrounding area. An interesting journey through the geological and industrial history of Le Creusot
