Description of the walk

(S) From the town hall in Saint-Sernin-du-Bois, cross the road and take the path on the left that follows the edge of the Étang de Saint-Sernin lake towards the south, until you reach the dam, which you follow by turning right to reach the other bank.

(1) At the pumping station, turn right again to reach the start of the road leading to Thomas Louis. The road climbs quite steeply on the left before making a sharp right turn. Continue along the road until you reach the crossroads at an elevation of 492 metres. Continue straight ahead, then, still in the same direction, continue to the hamlet of Les Fontaines.

(2) Leave the GR® 137 trail descend to the right towards Bas de Chëne. Continue straight ahead until you reach the Thomas Louis houses.

(3) In the hamlet, turn right until you find a beautiful path after the last house. Follow it down through the woods to Les Thoinys, then continue straight ahead until you reach the D61 at Bas de Marais.

(4) Turn left and follow the road until you cross the Mesvrin courtyards, then take the second street on the right at a large crossroads.

(5) Go up Rue Goujon all the way, following a meadow at first, then houses, before coming out much higher up on the road to Saint-Firmin, just after passing under some power lines.

(6) Take this road on the left, then turn into the first paved street on the right before it turns into a good path as it passes under two power lines. Continue slightly uphill to the hamlet of Les Soches.

(7) Take the path on the right after the first house. It leads to a fairly open landscape and back onto the Saint-Firmin road at an elevation of 432 metres.

(8) Follow the road to the right. On the other side of the road, you will see a dead end. Take it, then follow a good path on the left. This path is pleasantly wooded and fairly flat, then slopes slightly downhill. Look for a yellow signpost and follow it. Continue to the end.

(9) Turn left, then right to pass under the Champ du Haut, where there are some beautiful new houses. The path then descends quickly to the right to arrive at Rue du Docteur Rebillard at an elevation of 402 metres, at a crossroads.

(10) Cross the D43 with caution to take Rue des Prés, and follow it all the way to Rue du Maréchal Foch. On the left, follow a sort of valley and an electric line will show you the way.

(11) Cross at the pedestrian crossing and take Rue de Tunisie on the other side, slightly to the left. Follow it until you reach Rue de Brassac, located in front of the cemetery entrance.

(12) Turn left to go down towards Ruisseau le Montmain, which flows past a small car park, and join Avenue Montmain, which is more of a road. Follow this road to the right, running alongside the stream, until you reach a scrap metal yard and a road.

(13) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and take Route d'Arfleur on the left, which follows the Ruisseau le Montemain until you reach a marsh marking the start of the Grand Étang de Torcy. Concrete seats are provided where you can take a break or have lunch while admiring the wildlife, particularly the many birds.

(14) Continue along the road which, at the power line, turns left before heading east. You will come to a road.

(15) Leave this road and cross another road before passing under another power line. Continue in the same direction until you reach a wide path, which you cross at elevation 343.

(16) Continue straight ahead on a white path that soon turns right to join the road leading to the village of Le Breuil. Turn right and cross the small village between the castle on the right and the church on the left to reach a beautiful pond (unnamed) located opposite in the bend in the road.

(17) Turn right to cross the Ruisseau de Montenain, at the bottom of the cemetery, then continue along the slightly uphill road, above which you will have a beautiful view of the Grand Étang de Torcy. Leave the road that comes in from the left and continue to the next crossroads at elevation 357, marked by a cross.

(18) Turn right, then almost immediately left onto the road leading to Chez le Jard, which is located after the power line (it crosses the landscape in a north-south direction).

(19) Pass the large farm at Chez le Jard and continue to Les Voisottes.

(20) Take the road on the right until you reach the last houses, then turn left to reach the hill at 312, marked by a small bridge over the stream. Continue straight ahead before turning left onto a wide path heading south-east along the edge of Champ Grillot.

(21) Soon the path turns at a right angle towards a small farm before passing under three power lines and reaching a small group of houses.

(22) Keep left in front of the houses and follow the path that enters the forest before turning to follow the power lines again until you come out onto the Sapinières field at elevation 336.

(23) Turn left to follow the path along the edge of the Bois d'Aubout, from where you can already see the Le Creusot-Montchanin TGV station. The path, now wide, crosses a field before turning sharply left to reach a crossroads.

(24) Then turn right and then left. All you have to do now is reach the station via Rue d'Alembert.

(25) Take Avenue de l'Europe with your back to the station. Walk alongside the businesses in the industrial estate until you reach the roundabout, then take the road on the left towards the bridge that crosses the TGV line below.

(26) Continue along the road towards Bois Gendarme, which follows the GR®76D trail, then take the second road on the right down towards Ecuisses to pass under the railway line through a small tunnel reserved for pedestrians.

(27) At the end of the tunnel, you will come out onto Rue des Vernes, which you take on the left and which will take you to the centre of the village of Ecuisses, Rue du 19 Mars 1962. Turn right to reach the village hall and the edge of the Canal du Centre (E).
