The route starts at Saizerais Town Hall (small car park).
(S/E) With the town hall on your right, take the A-road until you reach the entrance to the industrial estate.
(1) Turn right towards the industrial estate, then immediately leave the tarmac to take a small path on the left between the road and the estate. You’ll then pass an ‘innovative’ sewage treatment plant which has never actually been in operation. At the far end of the estate, head left to cross the road.
(2) Immediately turn right onto a small, barely visible path that runs parallel to the road until you reach the entrance to the composting facility.
(3) Follow the road towards Saizerais, keeping to the right for a few metres, then cross it to take the “white path” which heads left towards the south and leads to the edge of the forest.
(4) Take the clear path on the left which enters the woodland (wooden huts). It runs roughly straight ahead until it joins a clear path heading left.
(5) Leave this very soon after, at a tree with a split trunk, to take a narrow track on the right. Follow this track, which soon runs alongside a wide ravine for 800 metres, until you reach a junction.
(6) Turn right onto the path, then left. After 400 metres on level ground, take a small (barely visible) path to the left, which immediately leads back onto a wider track. Turn right and continue to the next junction.
(7) Do not take the path that goes uphill; instead, stay on the track to the left, which remains more or less flat and leads to the foot of a short but steep climb.
(8) Climb this slope, then cross a path marked with the ‘Red Ring’ before finding yourself following a ravine.
(9) Follow the ravine, sometimes along the edge, sometimes inside it. This section, which requires a bit of skill, lasts a good kilometre before emerging at a junction of wide paths.
(10) Carry on to the right, down a gentle slope, along a smooth track heading westwards. As you approach the junction with the main track, look for a small path branching off to the left.
(11) Carry on along this path for over 400 metres until you reach a track. Take it to the right for 1.5 km. Pass the Ferme du Haras on your left. This is a chance to relax a little before the second set of single tracks.
(12) Just before you leave the woods, take a narrow, winding track to the right. Stay focused, but that doesn’t stop you from enjoying a clearing that offers a lovely view of Toul, with the Côte Barine and Mont Saint-Michel.
(13) Then follow this single track as it turns sharply to the right, once again following a series of ditches which eventually lead out onto a much wider path.
(14) Take the path that climbs slightly to the right, and you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the Bois des Hospices de Nancy.
(15) After 800 m, just before you reach the road, take the clearly marked track on the left. From here on, it’s almost all downhill – a real treat! This magnificent single track leads onto a path.
(16) Take this path to the right to reach the junction with the road. Head for the track that veers slightly to the left (signposted ‘Saizerais’), and follow it to the village. The section through the woods can be extremely muddy in wet weather, but there are short stretches of path along the edge that allow you to avoid the biggest puddles. On arrival, between the industrial estate and the housing estate, look for a small path leading off to the left between the houses (marked with a Yellow Ring).
(17) Follow the path and the signposts through the housing estate. Cross a road, then, at the second junction, turn right and then immediately left. At the next Fork in the road, keep left and continue to the second junction.
(18) Continue to the left, then keep to the right to reach Saizerais Town Hall (S/E).
