The route starts at Saizerais Town Hall (small car park).
(S/E) Head towards Saint-Georges, passing in front of the church, and go downhill to the junction with Rue des Chardonnerets.
(1) Follow this street to the next junction.
(2) Then turn right onto Rue des Jardins and follow it until you reach the edge of the village.
(3) Turn onto the track, signposted ‘Nancy-Metz’, and continue along it when it turns left at the junction.
(4) Walk slightly uphill and enter the forest, staying on the same track. Continue until it turns right.
(5) Carry on to the right for about 200 m and, shortly after a three-way junction, look for a small path that branches off at a 90° angle to the right.
(6) Take this path on the right and follow this obvious track until you reach a clearing fairly quickly. This is where the singletrack begins.
(7) Carry on, veering slightly to the left, then, just past a viewpoint, a fairly steep but short descent takes you to the bottom of a small valley.
(8) Follow the valley for about 1.2 km (a bit of careful riding as it’s narrow and undulating). Just before you reach the track leading to Belleville, don’t miss a small, steep path that climbs back up onto the plateau.
(9) At the top, a clearing offers a lovely view back towards Saizerais. Continue along the path, passing over a clear-cut area and coming to a wider track.
(10) Stay on the path until you reach another track.
(11) Head straight on and stay on the path until you finally reach the track to Belleville. Follow it for 80 metres to the left and look for a path on the right, near a small clearing.
(12) Take this path, which is lined with old boundary stones painted red. After 400 m, you’ll reach a track.
(13) Follow it to the right for a good fifty metres, but be careful not to miss a small path branching off to the left (not easy to spot). Take this path and, after 250 metres, you’ll come to a fallen boundary stone.
(14) Turn right and ride for about 600 metres along a very smooth single track until you find a small path on the left.
(15) Follow this path, which quickly leads to a track suitable for vehicles. Pass a strange ‘no parking’ sign and turn immediately right onto a small path that leads to the hillside overlooking Marbache. From there, the route becomes technical (rocks, a ravine on the right). The path runs along the hillside overlooking the village of Marbache.
(16) After 1.5 km on this path, begin the (fairly steep) descent towards the village. You’ll rejoin the tarmac road at the Chemin des Roches. Turn right and head towards Rue Aristide Briand, then onto the Chemin de la Fontaine à Vie.
(17) After 1.2 km, leave the tarmac and head straight on along a track suitable for vehicles for just under a kilometre, until you reach the start of a small footpath on the right.
(18) Take this path and then follow a very enjoyable single track running alongside a wider track. After 500 m, you’ll reach a junction with a track climbing steeply to the right and another leading off to the left to join the main track.
(19) Although it’s not very visible at first, take the single track that continues straight ahead. A little further on, you’ll cross the main track and continue straight ahead along another single track. Continue for another 750 metres or so along this single track until you reach a junction with a steep track branching off to the left.
(20) Ignore this and take the single track branching off to the right. After 250 m, you’ll reach a boundary marker; turn left onto the path that gradually climbs up to the plateau and leads to the composting facility run by the Communauté de Communes du Bassin de Pompey.
(21) Just before the road, follow the track that starts at a wooden sign marked ‘Saizerais’ and leads onto a track suitable for vehicles. Follow it to the left until you reach the road (D907).
(22) Cross the road (danger!) then turn immediately right. Stay on the path that runs alongside the Saizerais industrial estate. At the road, follow it for 50 metres to the left, then turn right onto Rue de Cornouillers and then onto Allée des Tilleuls (one-way) to reach Allée des Acacias on the left. Then take the Chemin du Ruisseau (wooden barriers) and turn right onto Rue des Pétunias, which leads back to the town hall (S/E).
