To put it simply, we could sum up the description by saying, follow the signs for "Tour du Lac" (Lake Tour), but that's not Visorando's way, so I'm going to describe this beautiful walk in the Meuse region.
We set off from the small village of Montsec because it is isolated and quieter than the developed areas to the north of the lake. You can park your vehicle near the church, located slightly above the village.
(S/E) From the church, go down the small road and cross the D119.
(1) At the end of Rue de la Fontaine, continue straight on to reach the Bois de Gargantua, or turn right if you want to limit yourself to walking around the lake. In this case, you will need to subtract 5.6 km from this route.
In this case, we went to the Bois de Gargantua.
(2) From there, retrace your steps to the initial crossroads.
(1) Turn left and walk past the farm. Continue straight ahead, first along the edge of the meadow and then through the Burly woods, the Joli woods and the Abbé woods, which are often damp in winter and spring. Don't worry about getting a little dirty. Reach the exit of the woods.
(3) You will come out onto the Madin Lake dyke. Follow it to the base of Nonsard and immediately take another dyke. You will reach a small path that runs along the edge of the lake.
(4) Pass in front of the gymnasium and the sailing school buildings.
Take another small dyke for 400 m and, 300 m further on, don't miss the small path that leads into the woods on the left.
(5) From the start of this path, walk for about 600 m and turn right.
(6) After crossing three small dykes, you will come to a large stony path.
(7) Take the path on the right. This path leads to the D119 road 2 km further on.
(8) Take the road on the left (which goes uphill at the end) to reach the village of Montsec, where you take the first right after the fountain to return to your car (S/E).
