Park in the car park at the Etang du Malsaucy water sports centre.
(S/E) Head north-west, following the road that runs alongside the railway line. Continue straight ahead at the bridge over the railway line. 750 m from the start, you will come to a wooden barrier indicating that you are entering the Étangs du Malsaucy and Véronne hunting and wildlife reserve. Continue for 600 metres along the path through the woods, marked with green rectangles and blue circles (not shown on the IGN map).
(1) Leave the signposts and turn right to go to the observation pontoon. Take the signposted path until it intersects with a forest track, turn left (same signposts) and continue to the level crossing. Cross it and continue on the stony path to the Evette-Salbert village hall.
(2) Continue on the paved road for 200 metres and take the first dirt track on the right between the houses to follow the signs for the Sentier des Étangs until you reach the intersection with a paved road called Rue du Champ du Frène.
(3) Continue straight ahead on this road until the next intersection. Follow the road to the right for 150 metres, then turn right again to cross the bridge over the railway line. Continue on the tarmac road for 200 metres. This road splits into two dirt tracks.
(4) Continue on the dirt road on the right (blue signpost). Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths on the right and left, which only lead to private ponds. At the intersection with the paved road at Les Boulets, turn right and continue for 150 metres until you reach a small roundabout.
(5) Follow the road on the right for 200 metres until you reach the crossroads with a road and two dirt tracks called Côte le Saint.
(6) Turn right onto the descending path marked "cycle" and "interdit sauf ayant droit" (do not take the road on the right). After 250 m, continue on the path on the left.
(7) At the next intersection, continue straight ahead (red circle sign). You may want to take a detour to the bird observatory via the path on the right (400m round trip). This detour is not shown on the map.
After 400 m, at the crossroads of four paths, take the one on the right (signposted Tour de la Véronne) and continue along the edge of the Étang du Malsaucy lake until you reach the beach. Walk along the beach, passing between the playground and the beach.
(8) Turn onto the path that branches off to the right of the "pause nature" chalet and follow this path along the lake to the Auberge du Lac. Come out onto the road parallel to the path, follow it to the level crossing and take the road on the right just before it to return to the starting point 200m away (S/E).
