Description of the walk

(S/E) Departure from the Malsaucy leisure centre car park: from the viewpoint on the Véronne, take the street on your left, which will lead you to the Malsaucy dyke: follow it to the lake inn.

(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Base Nautique and continue straight on until you reach the small ponds.

(2) The path enters the woods on the right. Cross two wetlands on pontoons (on your right, a short detour will take you to a viewpoint overlooking Malsaucy).

(3) At the junction with the path, turn left. When you leave the woods after the barrier, cross the railway line and continue along the gravel path and then the road.

(4) After the community hall on Rue des Taillis, turn right onto the dirt track, go down the valley, then back up and continue straight ahead on the tarmac road. Turn right twice to cross the bridge over the railway line.

(5) Take the path on the right, Rue de La Chapelle Sous Chaux. Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths on the right and left, which only lead to private ponds. At the intersection with the tarmac road at Les Boulets, turn right and continue for 150 metres until you reach a small roundabout.

(6) At the roundabout, turn right onto Rue de Bellevue. You will rejoin theGR®5. At the next crossroads, take the third path on your right. Continue straight ahead at the various intersections.

(7) At the junction with the Tour de la Véronne, follow it and turn right at the observatory to reach the car park. (S/E)

Worth a visit

Le Malsaucy, a pond steeped in history Dating back to 1571, it was created by the Church, which required the faithful to replace meat with fish on fast days. In 1671, Cardinal Mazarin leased it to the Master of the Belfort Forges. Its water was used to compensate for the low flow of the Savoureuse river in summer to power Belfort's metallurgical industry. A refuge for the League for the Protection of Birds, it forms, together with the neighbouring Véronne lake, a site of great ecological richness. You can discover the many birds from the observatories.
The Departmental Environment Centre, as well as the water sports centre and beach, offer everyone the pleasure
swimming, relaxation, sports and environmental awareness.

Ecological management of Le Malsaucy
The numerous protected species present on the site are subject to management measures to ensure their conservation. Draining the pond helps to maintain the vegetation belt, and work to reopen forest areas or create ponds allows extinct species to reappear. The reintroduction of extensive grazing with Highland Cattle allows for the maintenance of wetlands.

The Véronne discovery trail
Certified by Tourisme et Handicap, this 1.5-hour walk is accessible to all. The walk offers a variety of viewpoints, pontoons for crossing a wetland, bird observatories and information panels
dotted along the way.

Very busy route, wear good shoes in the woods as there are lots of puddles and mud. Be careful not to miss marker No. 4 on Rue des Taillis. Next time I'll do it in the opposite direction. Thank you very much for this route. Best regards, unglasses(sunglasses)sunglasses:

A pleasant experience, with few people on three quarters of the hike in April. To make it easier to follow, simply follow the solid blue circles along the entire route. Easy, accessible for families.

The current blue disc marked route has too much road traffic due to the diversion caused by work in the wetland area. I have decided to follow part of the red ring trail after crossing the first railway bridge, which offers a lovely unobstructed view of the ponds.
The path leads to Rue de l'Église after the farm. Turn left and continue along Rue des Taillis to rejoin the blue disc markings.

On Sundays, when the sun is shining, the trail is very popular, especially with families with children. A easy route.

It's a good route for hikers, but for those of us who enjoy photography, we were disappointed. There were too many uninteresting stretches for photos and too many private ponds, but we don't regret going to see it despite everything.
