Marcel Lallemand Trail

This hike has been named the Marcel Lallemand trail in honour of a tireless hiker. An active community member, he worked hard to create and mark hiking trails in the Belfort area. A commemorative plaque has been erected near the Virgin of Evette

This hike will take your breath away, between the Salbert hill, the blue line of the Vosges mountains and the Malsaucy lake. Superb views of the Planche des Belles Filles and the Ballon d'Alsace.
The trail is signposted.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Étang de la Vérone leisure centre.

(S/E) Head towards the refreshment bar and follow the Malsaucy dyke along the edge of the lake, then follow the footpath that leads to the Auberge du Lac. This section is marked with a blue disc.

(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Base Nautique, leaving the blue sign. Cross the bridge and turn left at a 90° angle. Cross Rue du Malsaucy, then take Chemin des Brosses. From this point, the path is marked with red rings.

Continue straight ahead for 100 metres, then turn right in the middle of a field towards an EDF electricity pole. The path runs alongside a pasture fence, passes behind a poultry farm and leads to Rue de l'Église. Follow this street to the left for 150 metres, then turn right onto Vie du Maréchal, which leads to Grande Vie.

(2) Turn left. The very wide path passes between farm buildings; continue straight ahead. 300 metres after the farm, turn slightly left and continue to the tarmac road.

(3) Turn left. At Rue du Thiamont, continue right onto Rue de la Forêt.

(4) At the 90° right-hand bend, take the road opposite, Rue des Frères Kern.

(5) Cross Rue des Hauts Trays and continue straight ahead on the path. The route then climbs up to the right through a copse to Rue Barbier. Follow it straight ahead for 600 metres.

(6) Near the place called La Porcherie, before going downhill, take the path on the right. It enters the forest, follows inter-communal boundary markers and crosses a stream before coming out onto a road.

(7) Continue on the left for about 150 metres, then turn right onto a path. Pass a car park, then behind the statue of the Virgin Mary, continue to follow the edge of the forest, then turn left and go down Rue des Bouleaux until you reach the departmental road.

(8) Follow the road to the right for a few dozen metres, then cross (with caution) to take Rue des Cerisiers opposite, then turn left onto Rue du Verboté. Cross the Vue des Vosges housing estate to reach the junction with Rue des Clarines.

(9) Cross the street and continue straight ahead through the meadows to Rue du Val. Continue straight ahead and, at the end, turn right onto Rue du Lac.

(10) Turn right, leaving the red ring markings, and follow the red and whiteGR®5markings. Cross the level crossing and return to the original crossroads.

(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the Malsaucy to return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Nestled in a green setting, developed by the Departmental Council, the Malsaucy site is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Belfort area. The Departmental Environment Centre and the water sports and leisure centre offer everyone the pleasure of swimming, relaxing, enjoying sports and learning about the environment.

In the 19th century, the site of the current Auberge du Lac was home to an ice house, which was used to store ice cut into cubes from the lake in winter. The ice stored here was used to supply breweries and
restaurants in the region with ice for refrigeration all year round, before ice was manufactured artificially.

To get from one village to another, the inhabitants used the "vies" (paths in the local dialect). Each path seems to have been given a name according to its reputation, such as the "vie des chiens" (dog path).

The Salbert hill (altitude 647 m) is the first peak of the Vosges Mountains. The Mont hill, located slightly further south, belongs to the Jura Mountains. The fault line separating the Vosges and Jura mountains formed the Cravanche cave. At the summit, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the region.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

Launched recently with much fanfare and self-congratulation by the elected representatives of the CD90, this trail is of very little interest and probably the least inspiring of all those in the area.
The view of the Vosges mountains is certainly beautiful, but it can be found everywhere else, and to top it all off, you can enjoy it better by leaving the trail at point 7 and joining the GR5 to go to point 9 without passing through point 8, which is a little shorter and has less tarmac than the proposed route (the second downside).
► This "trail" is absolutely not a trail: 80% of it is paved and the rest is either farm tracks filled with rubble or ballast, or even worse: between points 5 and 6, the forest has been completely destroyed over several metres wide to make way for a layer of gravel: a complete waste (see photo). Perhaps some construction companies are benefiting from this, but certainly not nature or hikers, unfortunately.
► You find yourself almost all the time in the middle of more or less successful residential areas or in open countryside, often without a tree in sight: done in mid-April, it's already almost sweltering and I can't see how it can remain passable in the heat of summer. The very short, somewhat pleasant forest section at the bottom of Salbert can be accessed from other places that are much more interesting. Maybe worth doing again in the snow to see if it's any better??? Not sure it's worth persisting.
► For a similar distance that's no more difficult and stays on flat ground, there are much more interesting options starting from the same place (for example, no. 225743, among others), and even better ones starting from just a little further away (for example, no. 1153236 in Auxelles-Bas), all of which stay on flat ground. Even starting from the centre of Belfort, you can find better and wilder routes (staying in Salbert or going around the forts or in the Mont forest).
► In short, a total disappointment, which makes you appreciate all the more what has been done elsewhere and long before, without all the advertising hype that is really just greenwashing.
► Few walkers (is that any surprise?) but more cars.
► The GPS route is perfect: at least we can be grateful for that. And it's all the more necessary as there is a particularly poorly signposted fork between Rue du Malsaucy and Rue de l'Église, between the ponds. Without it, you would have continued straight ahead: be careful. The rest is clearly marked and can be done without GPS: just follow the tarmac.

A beautiful, varied hike with magnificent views of the Vosges and Malsaucy. No difficulties. If you're feeling brave, after the statue of the Virgin Mary, you can climb up to Salbert via the GR 5 (breathtaking views). From the summit, head for the car park, then follow the yellow discs, then the blue circles and finally the blue rectangles to rejoin the Lallemand trail.

A great walk, very well signposted, with no difficulties and beautiful views of the Vosges mountains (luckily there was still snow on the summit of the Ballon d'Alsace, which was lovely)
a walk to recommend even for amateurs and suitable for families

A beautiful, peaceful walk through the countryside with stunning views of the Vosges mountains. At one point, we left the trail to climb up to Fort Salbert. The 360° panoramic view from the top was well worth the effort. We then rejoined the trail on the way down to Lake Malsaucy.

A lovely, easy walk.
Great for families.
Be careful, the first part is in direct sunlight, so take care on very hot days.
The second part in the Salbert woods is more pleasant
