Bellevue Trail starting from Crennes-sur-Fraubée

Park near the church in Crennes-sur-Faubée.

(S/E) Take the Bellevue path, follow the D511 towards the town hall and take a small path on the left to quickly rejoin the Route de Villepail.

(1) Continue on the D240, skirting a pine forest, then turn right to follow its edge. Reach the hamlet of Le Tertre. Begin the climb along an old wall to the right of Le Tertre. Look out for wattle fences. Reach the halfway point.

(2) Join the new GRP® trail of Mont des Avaloirs. The climb ends at a beech grove at Signal de Pail.

(3) Turn left onto the ridge path which marks the boundary between the communes of Crennes-sur-Fraubée and Villepail. Pass La Mézangerie, then continue straight ahead. Enjoy a new viewpoint here over the northern slope, where you can make out the village of Chattemoue and its old slate quarries.
You’ll reach another path junction between two wind turbines.

(4) Continue straight ahead, following the wind turbines, until you reach a four-way junction, then carry on straight on until you reach a second junction.

(5) Turn right at a 90° angle, then turn left at the next two junctions before reaching a^third.

(6) Continue left again until you reach the old Claire-Fontaine farm.

(7) Pass it, then the Gibardière farm, and arrive at the Maillardière crossroads.

(8) Turn left and reach the wind turbine path you passed on the way out.

(5) Turn right and you will soon reach the crossroads with the two wind turbines, which you also passed on the way out.

(4) Turn sharply right and continue straight on to return to the car park at the church in Crennes-sur-Fraubée (S/E).

(S/E) Crennes-sur-Faubée Church: a pretty little village church, built in the 12th century with an altarpiece dating from the 17th century.
Between (1) and (2) Woven hedges: these beech trees, woven together by our ancestors, were used to enclose plots of land simply by weaving young branches together.
(4) You can head straight back to the village by turning left to avoid the circular route.
