Sauze Vieux and Sauze, starting from the Pont des Roberts

This very pleasant walk allows you to explore the villages of Sauze Vieux and Sauze.
The path often winds its way through woodland.
You’ll also come across numerous meadows as the paths wind their way through the countryside.
On the way down, the detour to La Roche Trouée offers a lovely view.
Please note that the descent is quite steep, through the forest.

Description of the walk

Car park available at Pont des Roberts

(S/E) From the car park, follow the D2202 to cross the Pont des Roberts on foot.

Signposting is either yellow or, at intervals, white and green.

At marker 13 (altitude 767 m), begin a gradual climb through the forest towards Sauze Vieux.

(1) At marker 12, head towards Sauze Vieux on the right.

(2) At the junction, cross the forest track and take the path situated slightly to the right opposite.

(3) At marker 90, continue straight on towards Sauze Vieux, a hamlet consisting of a few houses. There is a drinking water tap here.
After passing between the few houses, you’ll reach a tarmac road marking the end of the village.

(4) At marker 89, head back up onto the road, passing a kennel on your left.

(5) At marker 88, at thefirst bend in the tarmac road, take the path on the left through open country. Join the D176 and follow it to the left for about a hundred metres.

(6) Take the path on the left.

(7) At marker 87, take the path branching off to the right towards Sauze. The climb is now over.
Shortly afterwards, you’ll reach the D176, a small mountain road.

(8) Cross it and, at marker 94, turn right towards Sauze.
In the distance, a plateau offering a view of Valberg. Walk along a wide path, flanked by two meadows, to reach the village of Sauze and pass through it.

(9) Take the road. Please note: do not take the path on the left which leads down towards Guillaumes.
Walk past the bins and head down to the first hairpin bend.

(10) At marker 93, head towards La Roche Trouée.
100 m after the marker, you’ll reach a junction. Please note: you must then continue straight on along the low wall.
Walk past a ruined farmhouse and take the path on the left which leads through a meadow. At this point, there is a sort of Fork in the road at the entrance to a hairpin bend. Take the path opposite, down to the left. Ignore the path that winds up the hairpin bend.

(11) At marker 92 (damaged), turn right for a steep uphill round trip. Reach the Roche Trouée viewpoint.
Markings are temporarily sky blue or green and white.
The descent then becomes quite steep and winding, but is in the shade. Take care, however, as the ground is slippery.
You will then reach the banks of the Var. Turn right to reach the Pont des Roberts (S/E).

A beautiful hike under the blazing sun, but with enough shade to enjoy it.
Landscape with diverse vegetation. Passing through the village of Sauze during this festive period.
Despite its steep slope, La Roche Trouée is worth a visit to take photos.
However, be careful on the descent, which is very slippery due to the pine needles.
you need to save your strength to get down safely.

Hello,

An easy hike, apart from the end. The descent from the 11 mark is really steep. What’s more, there are traces of a recent fire, which gives this descent a rather ‘ghostly’ feel.
In contrast, I really enjoyed the peaceful finish along the Var after that descent.
The view from the rock with the hole in it is well worth seeing.
