Route of the Balconies of the Daluis Gorges

Park in the car park located a few metres upstream of the Pont des Roberts, which crosses the Var, downstream from Guillaumes on the D2202.
(S/E) Cross the D2202 heading south and take the track running along the left bank of the Var. You’ll soon reach a junction with a path.
(1) Take the path to the left and begin a winding climb. You will reach the footbridge over the Ruisseau du Vallon de Tirebœuf.
(2) Cross the footbridge to reach marker 112 at the top of the climb.
(3) Continue down a gentle slope, first through the woods, then across open ground. You will reach marker 115.
(4) Continue straight ahead to reach the footbridge over the Ruisseau du Vallon d’Amen. Cross it, then follow the tight switchbacks back into the forest, eventually reaching the junction marked by signpost 140.
(5) Take the wide forest track heading south. At a bend, reach the junction at the campsite.
(6) Here you have two options: - continue straight ahead to extend the hike, - turn left to reach the Roua campsite to split the hike into two days; this is the route shown on the map.
(7) Return to the previous junction, past the campsite.
(6) Take the track on the left and follow it to reach marker 141.
(8) Leave the track here and take the path on the left, reaching marker 251; continue left to emerge at the Col de Roua at marker 250.
(9) Return to marker 251, turn left downhill and reach a track at marker 109.
(10) Take this track straight ahead and continue due west to the multi-way junction at marker 108.
(11) Turn right onto the narrow path, running parallel to the track through the woodland, heading due north. Navigate a few hairpin bends before crossing the Ruisseau du Vallon de Talon. Then proceed to marker 110.
(12) Turn left to reach the suspension footbridge over the Var.
(13) Cross it, then climb up to the opposite bank and reach the Roua rest area at marker 4b.
(14) Cross the D2202 with care and take the path opposite. Turn right at the next junction, pass marker 4a, continue alongside the road, and reach another footbridge over the Berthéon.
(15) Cross this footbridge, reach marker 5, turn left then immediately right at marker 6. Take the Sentier de Découverte here, following it uphill to the junction at marker 7.
(16) Turn right and, following an almost flat path, reach the Point Sublime viewpoint.
(17) Return in the opposite direction to the previous junction.
(16) Take the path on the right and, following a virtually level route, reach marker 18 at the junction with the D88.
(18) Take the road opposite and follow it to marker 8.
(19) Leave the road and take the path on the left, reaching the junction at marker 9. Continue downhill to the right, then come to a crossroads of paths.
(20) Turn right to reach the Pont de la Mariée. Take the path leading down to the right, towards the Pont de la Mariée.
(21) Cross the Pont de la Mariée over the Var, then follow the old tramway northwards to return to the junction you took on the way out.
(1) Retrace your steps along the outward route to reach the Pont des Roberts and the car park (start/finish).

Hike not recommended in summer: little shade, intense heat and possible difficulties in obtaining water. Mid-April 2024, following a wet winter, water was found in several places on the left bank (bring a filter or disinfectant tablets). The Clue d’Amen is probably the most reliable water source throughout the year for replenishing supplies, given its flow rate. On the right bank, there is no water except at the bridge spanning the Berthéon valley.(7) On this route, camping is only permitted at the designated campsite at Roua. Booking is compulsory all year round at this address. Please note regarding the campsite: the pitches are marked out by wooden platforms. It is impossible to use tent pegs here. A freestanding tent is essential, or you will have to sleep under the stars. Note: Clear yellow markings. The path is in good condition despite a few fallen trees. No particular difficulties, but there is a vertiginous flight of steps just before reaching the Mariée bridge.
