From Aurillac, take the N122 towards Le Lioran. After passing through the tunnel, turn right at the second intersection at the roundabout. Continue up this road for 480 m, then turn right near the ski lift and park immediately on the left side of the road in the car park near the shops.
(S/E) Continue up the road to the first signposted intersection before the current sports shop. At the sign, turn right and then quickly left to the north-west onto the small asphalt road. This quickly turns into a lane and leads to an intersection.
(1) Leave the lane on the left, which you will use on the way back, and turn sharply right towards the Téton de Vénus. The lane, which is signposted at each intersection, climbs steeply through the forest before emerging and turning into a path under the Rocher du Bec de l'Aigle at an altitude of around 1,500 metres. Follow this path around the rock to the left and climb steadily up the scree to join the GR®400 and the cairn at the summit of Rocher du Bec de l'Aigle.
(2) Continue westwards along this ridge dotted with gentians until you reach the next intersection at the foot of the Téton de Vénus.
(3) After passing through the metal gate, leave the GR®400 and turn right onto the summit trail. Follow this ridge trail, which climbs through grasslands, to reach the Téton de Vénus.
(5) Descend the opposite western slope towards Puy Bataillouse. A slightly longer but no more difficult climb will take you to the summit of Puy, marked by a cairn.
(4) Return to Téton de Vénus by retracing your steps.
(5) Turn 90° to the right and descend the southern path until you reach the GR®400.
(6) Turn right onto the GR®400 and continue until you reach a marked intersection.
(7) Make a sharp left turn and descend to Buron de Meige Costes.
(8) Descend via the GR® until you reach a road.
(9) Turn left and go up this road, which will quickly turn into a lane. Continue along this lane until the next intersection, where you will turn left and rejoin the crossroads from the outward journey.
(1) Follow the same route back to the car park (S/E).
The rest of the hike is magnificent. It's really worth the effort.
