Park in one of the numbered car parks at the resort, number 4 in this case today.
(S/E) Cross the station (signs indicate Plomb du Cantal via theGR®). Head to a parking lot.
(1) Here you have two options:
- turn left and, at the hairpin bend, find the path that enters the woods on the right,
- continue right on the wide track; there are no more markings, but you will find it again further on in a hairpin bend. Follow it to reach the Rocher du Cerf crossroads (this is the option we chose and is marked on the map).
(2) Follow this path to the right into the woods (note the difference between the recorded route and the IGN highlighting: the recorded route is correct, as it was tracked by GPS). You will reach the edge of the woods.
(3) Start a fairly gentle climb up the mountain pasture, which gradually becomes steeper. Reach an altitude of 1,662 metres at a crossroads.
(4) Keep left on theGR® towards L'Aiguillon and at the foot of the hill, turn right onto the ridge and take the path that is not marked on the map but is clearly signposted in red and white. Two sections require the use of your hands, the second of which is equipped with metal steps. You will come out at Puy du Roc.
(5) Continue downhill to Pas des Alpins before climbing very slightly to the junction with the Georges Bouvet ski trail.
(6) Continue south to reach the wooden steps leading to the summit of Plomb du Cantal.
(7) Reach the crossroads with the ski slope.
(6) Turn left onto the Georges Bouvet trail. Follow it, keeping the wooden barriers on your left, until you see a green sign on the ground.
(8) Turn right and wind your way through the mountain pasture to reach the Bleue de la Traversée trail.
(9) Head straight ahead on this trail until you cross the Plomb cable car.
(10) Continue straight ahead, cross the resort's arrival area and return to the car park (S/E).
