Téton de Vénus and Rocher du Bec de l'Aigle from Super-Lioran

The Téton de Vénus is a small, easily accessible peak with excellent views. Its distinctive shape, resembling a woman’s breast, is visible from afar. It offers a 360° view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Description of the walk

Super-Lioran resort, Plaine des Sagnes via the D67, near the chairlift departure points. Plenty of car parks nearby.
See important information under ‘Practical Information’.

(S/E) Keeping to the right of the peatland, head towards the Prairie chairlift.

White-red GR®400 markings

(1) Head up the ski run, which crosses over the D67 road via a bridge. About 150 m further on, take a flat path to the right. Continue along this path at the same level; it joins a hairpin bend on a quiet, tarmac road at the same level. Follow the road to the left until you reach the junction at the Col de Font de Cère.

(2) Pass to the right of the restaurant, onto a steeply ascending ski run. Continue following the signposts, alternating between walking parallel to the run and walking on it. Reach the top station of the Rombière chairlift.

(3) Pass above the chairlift terminus. Continuing due north, follow the GR® signposting to the right. Climb to the Col de Rombière.

(4) Follow the signposts to the right towards Téton de Vénus and Font d’Alagnon for about 300 m on level ground until you reach the crossroads.

(5) Continue left, uphill towards Téton de Vénus (ignore the descent to the right towards the Buron de Meije-Costes and Font d’Alagnon). The summit of Puy Bataillouse looms to the left. You’ll reach the 1627-metre mark (IGN map) at a left-hand bend. Possible alternative route: see “During the hike or nearby”

(6) Turn left at a right angle onto the small path that climbs due north to the summit of Téton de Vénus at elevation 1669. Beautiful 360° view.
Continue eastwards along the ridge until you reach the GR®. Carry on along the ridge, more or less level, until you reach the junction at the Rocher du Bec de l’Aigle.

Yellow markings

(7) Caution: steep and stony path. Leave the GR® markings to follow the steep path on the right. It descends via the most direct route, along an impressive, almost vertical ridge. Descend as directly as possible to Font d’Alagnon.

(8) Head back up to Super-Lioran,
- either via the GR®400 to the right of the Massabœuf chairlift,
- or via the D67 road, following the GPS track. To do this, head down the path to the road, cross it to go behind the car park and reach the bend in the D67.

(9) Cross the road (at the pedestrian crossing) and walk along it carefully until you reach Rue du Téton de Vénus and the car park (S/E).

Thank you @philrandovilaine. Starting from Font d'Alagnon does indeed make sense. I’ve added it to the description.

This route starts from the Font d’Alagnon car park, which shortens the length of the circular route and takes you all the way round the valley. The descent down the Bec de l’Aigle is indeed quite technical (you may need to use your hands at times during the first quarter of an hour of the descent), but it gets easier the further down you go.
As for the Téton de Vénus, whilst the view is indeed exceptional, don’t expect to find the gentle, picturesque landscape that the name of this peak or the view of it from the valley might suggest. Unfortunately, it is nothing more than a rocky volcanic peak.

As indicated, the end can be dizzying. Not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo.

You can return by retracing your steps, then turning off towards the buron and returning to the station. This route is more suitable for young children.

A lovely hike for our first outing in the Cantal!
We went up to the Meije Costes refuge the night before to spend the night there, and set off on the walk early in the morning.
As we were doing it in winter, snowshoes came in handy for a few slightly icy sections. Similarly, the rental shop and the refuge warden had advised us to be extra careful on the descent after the Bec de l’Aigle. Steep but good conditions for us, no trouble getting through.
A superb spot for a picnic and birdwatching at lunchtime; we were lucky enough to see deer and birds of prey (red kites?).
Thanks for the route!

A lovely walk that alternates between woodland and ridges, offering stunning views. Be warned, however: we had planned to take the path that descends towards Le Lioran from the Bec d’Aigle, but it is very steep. As the weather was wet and windy on the day of our hike, we decided to retrace our steps and head back to Super Lioran via the path that passes by the Meije Costes refuge, which is much safer and easier to navigate.
