Rimont walks

In the heart of nature, through the forest of the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Nature Park, climb the ridge from Lescure to Rimont and overlook the Little Pyrenees with a magnificent view of Mont Valier and the Montcalm massif. Turn around and admire the rolling landscapes of the Séronnais, Arize, Couserans and Volvestre valleys.

Between farmland and virgin forest, discover the ruins of the Château de Saint-Barthélémy, which overlooks the authentic villages of Durban-sur-Arize and Montseron on the Plantaurel massif. You will admire the most peaceful landscapes: views of the Pyrenees, emerald forests worthy of the greatest fantasy films, and hills stretching as far as the eye can see.

This hike is accessible to all, on a perfectly maintained trail which, after an hour's walk, will take you to the small summit of Tête d'Âne. There, you will enjoy a breathtaking view to the south of the highest peaks of Couserans: Valier, Maubermé and Mail de Bulard. To the north, a completely different spectacle awaits you, as in good weather you can see the plain of Saint-Girons all the way to Lescure. A striking contrast between plain and mountain.

Easy walk with beautiful views of the Pyrenees.

This hike takes place mainly on agricultural and forest tracks with beautiful views of the Pyrenean foothills. Contrazy is a hamlet that you will only discover when you see the sign, as it is nestled in its green surroundings. Beautiful renovated farms, a remarkable church, a street decorated with flowers. On the way back, don't miss the unusual Notre-Dame de la Goutte chapel in Montardit.

A route around the recently renovated and re-erected Croix de Garrié. The route begins in the shade, on a north-facing slope, and follows a gentle gradient for most of the way up this slope. Magnificent scenery on the south-facing slope with breathtaking views of the Pyrenees mountain range and Mont Valier in the foreground. And, before heading down towards the car park at the start, you cross the route to Cap de Garrié and its cross, which the more adventurous can reach in about ten minutes. The return descent is along a slightly steeper slope, but is completely safe, offering views of the Salat valley and the ruins of Encourtiech Castle. This trail, recently renovated and signposted, was created under the supervision of the local council, which oversees and coordinates its regular maintenance.

A viewpoint overlooking the neighbouring villages at your feet. Full view of the remains of the viscount's castle during the climb. At the summit, the Couserans Pyrenees stretch out before your eyes. A 300-metre climb on a well-marked, brand new footpath created in 2021 by the municipality of Encourtiech offers you a breath of fresh air in a splendid landscape.

A short family walk offering 180° views of the Couserans mountains, including Vallier, for almost the entire route. Most of the walk is along a very quiet road. It is best to do this walk in the morning to avoid the mountains being in silhouette.

This easy hike allows you to admire all the peaks of the Ariège, including Mont Valier. From the road (first third of the route) to the end, this majestic landscape unfolds throughout the walk. This route can also be done by mountain bike.

This mostly shaded walk offers varied views of the valleys and hills at the foot of the Sourroque massif, with a wild feel in places, all close to Saint-Girons.

A beautiful hike on the Plantaurel massif which, from the village of Monfa, will take you on well-marked trails with beautiful climbs to discover surprising local habitats, beautiful views, the Roc du Cor, the Les Moulis Ecomuseum, the hamlet of Camarde, and the Couminge dolmen. You may see herds of geese, sheep, goats, donkeys and horses.

Le Mas-d'Azil is a site rich in prehistoric remains. This trail takes in three very well-preserved dolmens, while offering a fine view of the Ariège Pyrenees and surrounding hills.

A very pleasant walk through beautiful forests along forest tracks and a few well-marked paths. A fairly difficult section that is fully roped off (to be avoided with dogs, otherwise you’ll have to carry them), with numerous short detours to see the entrances to chasms or viewpoints that are not to be missed. Beautiful beech woods and the regrowth of boxwood give this path a touch of magic. The app will be useful as numerous paths cross at various points.

This short hike will allow you to see the Lafont Tower and enjoy a superb 360° view from the summit of Cap de Campets.

Walk through the hillsides of the village of Soueix with panoramic views of Le Vallier, the Col d'Ayens and Mirabat Castle. Architectural highlights include the churches of Saint-Sernin and Vic d'Oust, and the railway bridge.

A short and pleasant walk along the ridges, facing the Pyrenees. The climb is a little steep at the start, but accessible with good footwear (less experienced walkers should avoid muddy periods).

A family walk on well-maintained and marked trails through forests, pastures and varied landscapes, with a view of the Pyrenees from the ridge. This route allows you to discover a rich heritage: the village with its half-timbered houses, a ruined castle, an outdoor sculpture exhibition, and more. The loop begins or ends, depending on your choice, at Lac de Bouydou, a fishing lake with pontoons, picnic tables and a barbecue. This route can be done in either direction.

Start from the village of Alos and its castle. After a steep climb, you will discover the panorama of the Ariège Pyrenees and, at the summit of the Pic de la Quère, a small part of the Mont Valier.

This beautiful, long walk with moderate elevation changes alternates between plains, ridges and woodland. It allows you to discover the countryside of the Arize valley.

Climb up to the ruined Mirabat Castle, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Couserans mountain range with Mont Valier and the plain in the foreground.

Pleasant forest walk.

The Volvestre inter-communal tourist office offers a marked and secure route. You will appreciate the calm and serenity of the hamlet of Argain, which will welcome you before or after your walk. This is a pleasant short hike with an uphill section that allows you to admire the hillsides of Volvestre against the backdrop of the Pyrenean peaks. If you prefer circulars, you can return via the small road through the woods rather than going back through the forest. To do this, at the point (6), turn right and follow the road to the chapel.

Climb up to the Bouriex relay antenna for a magnificent view of the Couserans mountains and the Toulouse plain. At the top, the Bouriex discovery trail information panels provide information on the surrounding mountains and local legends.

A beautiful hike with lovely views of the town of Foix and its castle, as well as the Pyrenees mountain range. A very quiet hike, with unspoilt nature, shaded sections in the forest and sections exposed to the sun.

A pleasant, easy hike from the Col de Port, in a magnificent setting combining forest, stream, picnic area and views of the Pyrenees. Not very busy except at the pass.

A short, easy Sunday hike (500 m elevation gain) leading to Pic de Razels (1,600 m) with a magnificent 360° view. After a winding climb, you reach the ridge, which you follow to the left through a pretty wood to the peak. Lovely views all along the way.

This is a beautiful hike accessible from the Col de Port, offering magnificent views of the Pyrenees mountain range, from Saint-Barthélémy in the east to Mont Valier and beyond in the west. After a fairly short climb to Pic d'Estibat, the hardest part is over, as the rest of the route continues in a circular fashion along a beautiful ridge before descending through woods and returning on the north side via a pretty valley past the Estibat hut. A steady climb to the summit of Cos with two beautiful viewpoints, the Salat valley and the Garbet valley and the Vallier massif on the other side, and a return to the banks of the Salat River with its turbulent, turquoise-blue waters.

This circuit provides access to the dry stone hamlet of Les Orris. It is a magnificent pastoral village, used for summer grazing, set in lush green surroundings opposite the Pic des Trois Seigneurs. The hamlet of Les Goutets was used from the 1800s until around 1950.

A circular route that allows you to discover a low-altitude pond nestled in the middle of the forest, then a mountain pond in the heart of the mountain pastures, passing by the Campuls hut, and to meet the herds in summer.
