Rilly-la-Montagne walks

Everythird weekend in July, Les Secrets du Petit Bonhomme are given a new twist, allowing you to explore the village of Rilly-la-Montagne via the existingPR79 trail with a few variations. Interesting viewpoints, a link between the forest, the village and the vineyards, and features related to the village’s floral displays. Route available all year round, except in the forest during the hunting season.

This hike will take you across the Montagne de Reims along beautiful paths with almost no tarmac. Much of it is marked by the Randonneurs & pèlerins 51 association. You will meet walkers from all over the world, especially Holland and Belgium. The outward or return journey is by TER train between Aÿ station and Rilly-la-Montagne station, where you can park for free. It is accessible from Paris either by TER via Epernay or by TGV via Reims.

An easy walk through vineyards and fields.

This is a long hike through woods and vineyards, accessible by train from the TER stations in Rilly-la-Montagne or Germaine. It is 23 km long, but can be shortened to 18 km by taking the train from Rilly-la-Montagne to Germaine. Its main attractions are the route of remarkable trees and a beautiful view of Reims in good weather.

This lovely forest walk in Rilly-la-Montagne is ideal for families and nature lovers who want to stretch their legs on a simple and pleasant route. We did it with a baby in a baby carrier, so it was no problem (however, it is not suitable for pushchairs).

The route is easy, as it follows theGR® (GRP® de l'Ardre andGR®142) in their current version (not the one on the maps), and is well marked for over half of the way.

This is a hike for lovers of beautiful trees. From the Maison Forestière du Cadran to Pourcy, you can admire several remarkable trees, whose history is recounted on information panels. You can visit the Maison du Parc and return via a quiet road through the pretty village of Courtagnon.

This hike begins in the Champagne hills and gradually descends into the heart of the Montagne de Reims forest via some very pleasant trails. The end of the route descends from the forest plateau to finish on the old CBR (Chemin de la Banlieue Rémoise) with a lovely view of the village of Verzenay and its hillsides.

Twenty-third stage of the Jura to Hauts-de-France via the Francigena. Following the Marne-Aisne Canal, you leave the Champagne vineyards and the Reims mountains behind to arrive in Reims and its Notre-Dame Cathedral. As you cross Reims, there is a wealth of heritage to discover: the cathedral, of course, but also the Basilica of Saint Remi, Gallo-Roman ruins and engravings by Albrecht Dürer. You then leave this beautiful city behind and continue through vineyards and forests towards the Massif de Saint-Thierry, one of the four Champagne production areas.

This is an easy, semi-sporting hike (if you walk at a good pace on the first part) and a semi-cultural one, offering beautiful views of the Champagne plain and a natural curiosity of the region: trees that grow in a twisted manner, the Faux de Verzy.

Available from Tuesday 24 June 2025. Starting near the (future) new Mesneux school, discover the solar system and its planets - on a human scale - as you walk along the paths around the village, through fields and vineyards. Car parks: see "Practical information" below.

Located in the Verzy national forest, the Faux de Verzy are well worth a visit! The twisted beech trees and a hollow oak tree will capture your attention. During your hike, you will feel as if you have stepped into the Forest of Brocéliande.

This is a lovely walk in a little-known area, the Ardre Valley. The walk takes you over hills and through valleys, across Champagne vineyards, fields and forests. It starts at the beautiful Saint-Lié Chapel in Ville-Dommange.

The city of Reims occupies a special place in the history of France and Europe. This urban route combines Romanesque masterpieces such as the Basilica of Saint-Rémi and Gothic masterpieces such as Notre-Dame Cathedral, with the Art Deco architecture characteristic of the city's reconstruction after the First World War.

This three-hour walk will take you to Mont Aigu, where you will have a beautiful view of the plain.

This is a short walk full of surprises: a pretty manor house in the woods, an ancient Roman road, and part of the Via Campaniensis, the Way of St James from Rocroi to Vézelay, where you often meet pilgrims.

This hike takes us through the vineyards to the picturesque village of Hautvillers, where many Champagne family homes can be found. The Abbey of Saint-Pierre d'Hautvillers houses the tomb of the monk Dom Pérignon, who is credited with inventing the Champagne method of winemaking. The Pierre Cheval Park, nestled on the side of a hillside, offers a magnificent view of the village of Hautvillers.

This is a lovely day hike starting from Hautvillers. It takes you through vineyards and woods on both sides of the Marne Valley, with splendid views. It's a great opportunity to discover this beautiful vineyard and visit a few wine cellars.
