Wherever you are coming from, head for the village of Laruns. Drive through the village, then leave the Gourette road and turn right onto the D934 towards the Col du Pourtalet. Drive past Lac de Fabrèges and park 8 km further on, on the left-hand side of the road, in the large car park near the Cabane de l'Araille.
(S/E) Take the wide track that descends to the right of the road (if coming from the north) into the meadow along the Gave de Brousset. Cross a footbridge and reach a bend to the left of the track.
(1) The footbridges that used to cross the two branches of the stream directly to the north have been destroyed. Continue along the track heading east to a first hut.
(2) At the yellow sign, La Pombie, indicating to turn right, take this track which leads to a footbridge and the Cabane de Houns De Gabès.
(3) Continue along this stony track, which continues to climb up to the Cabane de Sénescau.
(4) The track turns into a path winding up through the meadows to the Col de Soum de Pombie (2,107 m), which is the highest point of the hike.
(5) From there, you can already see the refuge, which you will reach in 20 minutes via the path that continues northwards and either follows the contour lines or descends slightly to reach Lac de Pombie.
(6) Retrace your steps a few metres back to the refuge (2034 m).
(7) After strolling around the lake or having something to eat at the refuge, return along the same path to the car park (S/E).
