(S) Take the path behind the Refuge de l'Arpont, which climbs steeply straight up towards the Arpont lakes. After a section along a ledge, you’ll emerge onto the plateau, a large, flat area with a magnificent view of the glacier.
(1) Here, on this large, undulating plateau with large, broad boulders, there is no longer any path. Turn left heading due west, zigzagging as you cross several torrents flowing down from the glaciers. The suggested route leads safely to a junction above the lake.
(2) Turn left onto a gentle descent, passing alongside the first large lake with green waters. Follow its left side, then its eastern shore. Climb up a pile of rocks. Continue along its ridge to discover these immense boulders which shelter pools and hollows formed by the torrent.
Reach the outlet stream known as Thibaud.
(3) Cross the torrent and head towards the glacier, this time following the lake along its southern shore.
Caution: It is possible to venture onto the glacier front, but do so without taking any risks (see practical information).
(4) Head back down, keeping to the right, and follow the small lakes above the large lake to return to the junction of this short circular route.
(3) Head back up to the junction at the highest point overlooking the lake.
(2) Follow the same route as on the way up to return to the Refuge de l'Arpont (E).
