Anglès - Lac de la Raviège - La Souque

To start the hike, park your car in the Monument aux Morts car park in the centre of the village of Anglès.

(S/E) Cross the D68 and continue straight ahead. Follow the^PR® (yellow) signs until you reach a cross.

(1). Turn right towards Les Hons. The path continues through woods and clearings. Cross the pretty Negrerieu stream and you will arrive at the Moulin de Lancette mill, which you can see slightly below.

(2) Turn towards the mill, which you leave on your right, to cross the bridge over the Negrerieu. The path, still signposted, soon turns left and zigzags uphill. Shortly after the Cayrel farm on your left, you come to a crossroads where you join the^GR®71-653(white and red markings).

(3) Continue straight ahead on the^GR®, ignoring a very wide track on the left. Follow the^GR® (northbound) to the hamlet of Les Sires and the D61.

(4) Cross and continue straight ahead. Shortly before the hamlet of Faucou, leave the^GR® which branches off to the left and take another sunken path opposite. Pass in front of the house and you will soon reach the D68.

(5) Turn right and 100 metres further on, take the small road that climbs up to the left, towards Belbosc and Campmarty (road sign). The road climbs through woods and then levels out. Ignore three paths on the left, pass Belbosc and continue to Campmarty.

(6) Turn 90° to the right and continue to a crossroads.

(7) Turn 90° left, then left again 300 metres further on. The plateau opens up and the view extends over the Montagne Noire. Continue slightly uphill towards the edge of the pine trees and take the first track on the right. This turns left at a right angle and joins an intersection.

(8) Ignore the path that continues straight ahead and turn right downhill. Continue to follow the yellow signs, always going straight ahead. The path leads to a tarmac road, just before the pretty site of Rec de Biou and its small lake.

(9) Turn right, ignoring the first road that turns 90° to the right and returns to Anglès. Walk on flat ground between pretty pine and spruce trees until you reach a crossroads.

(10) Turn left. The road is very beautiful and offers lovely views on the left. Pass the track that leads to Les Jouclas and continue for about 200 metres.

(11) Leave the road and turn left uphill. Follow the yellow-marked trail, which descends, turns right at a 90° angle and leads to a place called Les Girmanes. Turn left between the houses and continue straight ahead until you reach the D52.

(12) Follow the road to the left. You will see Lac de la Raviège below on your left.

(13) Just before a small crossroads, turn right (yellow signpost and sign for Tour du Plateau d'Anglès). Follow these signs to return to the starting point.
After crossing Les Terrières Hautes, the path climbs through the forest for about 1.5 km before levelling out and reaching an intersection. Leave the track leading to Laurens on your left and continue to the right.

(14) At the next junction, turn right to reach a crossroads with five roads leading off.

(15) Cross (with caution) and take the road opposite, which runs alongside meadows on the left and climbs slightly to a crossroads.

(16) Leave the road and continue straight ahead on the path, following the yellow signs. At the fork, turn right. The path joins a small road, which you take to the left until you reach the junction with the D68a.

(17) Turn right. The road almost immediately leads to a crossroads with a restaurant on the left, on the corner. Cross and continue straight ahead towards La Souque (road sign and yellow arrows). You will arrive at the village square with a statue of the Virgin Mary on your left. Walk past it, turn left and follow the road downhill to a crossroads.

(18) Leave the road and continue straight ahead on an uphill path which further on joins the road you left earlier at a place called Pradou.

(19) Turn left, pass between the houses, then turn right onto a sunken lane that leads to the pretty site of Moulin de Corbière and a small road.

(20) Turn left to follow the Souque. You will see the Moulin de Corbière on your left (road sign); shortly afterwards, the path leaves the road and climbs to the right into a meadow.
It levels out, passes a cross on the left and arrives at the Babarote clearing with its two original buildings, in a wonderful wooded site.

(21) At the crossroads a little further on, continue straight ahead. The path leads to another crossroads with a calvary.

(22) Turn left, heading west.

(23) At the intersection, just before the hamlet of La Griffoulade, turn right at a 90° angle to continue downhill and finally leave the woods. You will see the bell tower of Anglès straight ahead. The path leads to a road. Follow this road, turn left at the junction and you will reach the D68. Turn left and head for the Place du Monument aux Morts (S/E).

Good walking shoes recommended.
This relatively long hike requires good training and physical fitness.
