Essegney lake

A short, flat walk in the shade by the water, relatively easy to navigate (suitable for a "cross" pushchair)... around a lake.

Description of the walk

Start at the end of Rue du Pâquis, in Essegney. There is a lorry park.

(S/E) Follow the signs for the lake and football stadium (signposted). Continue to the first junction.

(1) Turn right, continue straight on, running alongside the football pitch.

(2) Turn right and continue straight on until you reach a large car park.

(3) Take the path to the right of the information sign (in fact, go straight on for a few metres then turn right – this is the path you’ll need to follow throughout the route, which goes round the lake.

(4) Turn left between the lake and the Moselle.

In the final third of the route, the path is lined with lime trees that are very fragrant in July.

(3) Take the outward route on the right to return to the car park (S/E)

Notes

Note: this walk is not signposted.

The path is fairly even, though in places it is a bit bumpy. Please note if you wish to park in the large car park in front of the lake: access is restricted to vehicles of a certain height (maximum height: 1.80 m).
There are plenty of tables and benches in good condition, so you can enjoy a picnic by the water’s edge.
Please note: whilst barbecues are permitted, open fires on the ground are prohibited, as are swimming and boating...
Fishing is regulated.
Dogs must be kept on a lead.
A lovely avenue lined with lime trees on the final quarter of the route.
No special equipment required (a pair of trainers is sufficient).

Worth a visit

It is not possible to reach point 1 as the path is blocked by a gate. At point 3 there is a car park if you are coming by car. The spot is pleasant despite its proximity to the dual carriageway (RN57). It’s a good spot for anglers; an annual permit costs €42. You’ll find picnic benches around the well-maintained lake. You can drive around the lake if you bring a barbecue, a cool box, etc. A short, easy stroll, just to get some fresh air.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to go on this hike, and the holidays are here, so I’m putting it off until things have calmed down a bit.

But, of course, I’ll keep it in mind!
