In La Seyne, from Avenue Charles de Gaulle or Avenue Pablo Neruda (depending on the direction of travel), take Avenue Hugues Cléry at the Rond-Point des Plongeurs Démineurs roundabout towards Mar Vivo Beach.
At the end of the avenue, there are several car parks around the group of buildings overlooking the entrance to Mar Vivo Beach. For this hike, park on Avenue de la Plage or Boulevard de la Verne.
(S/E) With your back to the beach, walk along Boulevard de la Verne, keeping to the left, to reach the Mar Vivo à la Vern path, which first climbs and then continues straight on to the Boulevard Henri Villat crossroads.
(1) Turn left and descend, turning right to follow the shore. You will soon come to a low wall with an opening leading to Plage de la Vernette. Descend to this beach and take the coastal path that runs to the right among the rocks.
You will soon arrive at Pointe de Mar Vivo, where there are two batteries on their cylindrical turrets. Turn right to go around them, or you can also go straight ahead to pass between the two towers.
Continue along the coastal path until you reach a crossroads before the boat careening area.
(2) Leave it on your right and continue left onto Plage de la Verne. You will soon reach the crossroads of Chemin des Canniers and Plage de la Verne.
(3) Stay on the edge of the beach and cross the Ruisseau l'Oïde stream. Continue along the beach. Just after crossing a boat ramp, continue along the coastal path rather than over the rocks.
Note: experienced walkers can continue along the rocks, but there are a few tricky sections, especially if there are waves, so less athletic walkers are advised to take the road, which is very quiet and pleasant.
Go past Boulevard Dominique Jauber to reach the start of the coastal path, known here as Sentier de la Sauvageonne.
(4) Turn left and you will soon reach the coast. Walk around the Fabrégas boat careening area and you will come out onto Fabrégas Beach. Then reach the barrier that closes off the Bau Rouge path.
(5) Go through it and walk up this street. After a hairpin bend to the left, continue climbing until you reach another hairpin bend to the right on Chemin des Crêtes. Here you will find signs describing the coastal path.
(6) Take the coastal path, which starts off fairly level before descending gently.
Ignore the paths starting on the left to reach the Bœuf car park. Cross the Corniche Varoise road overlooking the car park and take the forest track climbing opposite, which is the Bau Rouge track. Reach a viewpoint at the junction with the Périmétrale track.
(7) Take this track downhill, continue along it and go around the Buffalo Hacienda campsite. Then follow the Vallat de l'Oïde stream and join the road called Chemin des Gabrielles.
(8) Turn right onto this road, leave it a few metres further on and turn left into a forest of holm oaks. Follow this path downhill until you reach a bridge over the Vallat de l'Oïde stream.
(9) Stay on the right bank of the stream, then leave it to go around the GCU campsite. Continue along the track, which runs alongside a cultivated area and then a dirt car park, cross the Fabrégas aux Moulières path and continue to the bastide. Pass in front of the bastide and join the Corniche Varoise. Turn left towards the roundabout with a boat on it, which is a Mediterranean pointed boat.
(10) Cross the roundabout and take the Vieux Chemin de Fabrégas, then immediately turn right onto Boulevard Garnault. Gradually turn left and pass in front of a transformer.
(11) Turn right onto Chemin des Canniers, and you will soon come to the crossroads you passed on the way there.
(3) Continue left along the same path as on the way out to quickly reach the dead-end crossroads you also passed on the way out.
(2) Go up this cul-de-sac on the left until you reach the crossroads, then take the Chemin de Mar Vivo à la Verne opposite. Pass a group of buildings on the left and you will return to the original crossroads.
(1) Follow the same route as on the way there to return to the Mar Vivo beach car park (S/E).
