Description of the walk

From Toulon, take a Mistral ferry across the harbour to the Embarcadère des Sablettes, the starting point for the hike. The crossing offers beautiful views of the military port and the Tamaris mussel beds in Balaguier Bay. The return journey is from the Saint-Mandrier pier.

(S) Cross the park to reach Anse des Sablettes beach. Take the path on the left towards Pointe de Saint-Elme.

(1) Continue along the coastal path marked in yellow, which goes around Fort Saint-Elme and joins Saint-Asile Beach. Continue along the same path towards Pointe de Marègau. The coastal path then climbs up to the Gros Bau Battery, goes around the military site and joins a small road.

(2) Leave the road downhill to the left and continue uphill to the right, along the fort to Pointe de la Renardière. This entire section is a succession of ascents and descents among the rocks. They are short but steep, sometimes in the form of steps, and occasionally equipped with handrails. Enjoy the beautiful views! The path then descends steeply to Plage de la Coudoulière, where a shaded area provides an excellent picnic spot.

(3) Continue along the coastal path along the Corniche d'Or to the fence of the military zone.

(4) Follow it to the left uphill to the access road to the area.

(5) Take this road on the left, then turn right towards the old Franco-Italian military cemetery.

(6) Turn right and walk around the cemetery. Then return to the crossroads.

(6) Leave the road and follow the path downhill to Rue Jean Ricard.

(7) Follow this street towards the sea and reach the Saint-Mandrier pier (E).

A beautiful hike that runs along the sea and then climbs away from it, with stunning views on all sides! There are quite a few steps at the start of the first climb, as there are many ascents and descents. Lovely views of Les Sablettes, then Pointe de Saint Mandrier and finally Toulon. There are plenty of places to picnic, and it was quite busy on the day we visited.
Please note: this route is not recommended the day after rain, as the path is very slippery in places and already eroded in some sections.
