To get to the starting point, head towards Moirans-en-Montagne. On the D470, at the north-western end of the Villards d'Héria Viaduct, there is a car-sharing car park. This is the starting point.
(S/E) To start the route, head towards the roundabout, take the third exit and follow signs for Martigna on the D299 for approximately 200 m.
(1) Leave the D299 on the right to follow the path running alongside the D470.
(Caution: this is a fairly technical path for several kilometres).
You will arrive next to the roundabout at the Vernoire West Industrial Estate.
(2) Cross the road and continue along the path that runs alongside the D470.
(3) At the end of the path, take a short detour to the left to admire the view of Lake Vouglans. Then continue across the car park to the left to find a small path leading downhill.
At the sign for Belvédère du Regardoir, head towards Charchilla (yellow markings). At the end of the path, alongside the D470, continue to the left.
(4) Take the small path on the left before the D470; this is the old Roman road. Walk past the Auberge Jurassienne, cross the road and continue along the “À la Mercantine” path opposite, which runs parallel to the D301.
(5) Leave this path via the very narrow track that climbs up to the Route du Lac in Charchilla, cross the road and continue along the path directly opposite.
Cross the Route de Maisod and continue along the path directly opposite. Follow this path for 5 km until you reach the D301.
(6) Continue in the same direction on the D301, cross the D470 and continue westwards to cross the Pont de la Pyle.
(7) In the car park just after the Pont de la Pyle, continue along the downhill path marked with red mountain bike signs and the indication "TLV" (Tour du Lac Vouglans).
Follow these markings until you reach the sign for “Roche Brison”.
Please note! You are on theGRP®® Tour du Lac Vouglans, but be sure to follow the mountain bike markings, which occasionally leave theGRP®® on sections that are impassable by mountain bike.
(8) After the campsite, take the path towards Largillay/Entre Deux Portes. Ride alongside the lake and enjoy the beautiful views.
(9) At the place known as "Entre Deux Portes", continue north-east, still heading towards Largillay (7.2 km).
(10) Turn north, still heading towards Largillay (2.9 km).
From this point onwards, the landscape becomes predominantly agricultural as you are no longer following the lakeside.
(11) At the junction with Rue des Carrières, continue north-east, passing through the village of Largillay-Marsonnay and following the mountain bike signs towards Poitte. Stay on this small tarmac road until you reach the hamlet of Poitte.
(12) Cross the hamlet via Rue du Château d'Eau and head towards Pont de Poitte.
(13) At Pont de Poitte, take the first exit off the roundabout towards Port de la Saisse.
Pass the port and follow the River Ain to the bridge.
(14) Cross the bridge, taking the opportunity to stop and admire the view of the potholes on either side.
After the bridge, turn right onto Route du Lac (D61) towards Minoterie Sauvin.
Ride through the Pitelle district and, at the bend, leave the D61 to take the path signposted Plage de la Mercantine (19.5 km). Continue to follow the mountain bike signs closely until you reach Barésia-sur-l'Ain.
(15) In Barésia-sur-l'Ain, turn right just after the church and follow signs for “la Côte” along the Route de la Plaine. Continue to the hamlet of Les Granges de la Côte.
(16) At the last house in the hamlet, leave the small road and head due east along the path. You will follow the lakeside again along a path through the woods.
You’ll need to carry your bike for a short stretch to get past the roots and the steepest sections.
Continue to the junction with Rue du Chêne.
(17) At a place called "La Ficherine", at the junction with Rue du Chêne, continue eastwards towards La Fraite. Keep following the mountain bike markings and the GRP®®trail.
Cross through Auge, turn onto Rue du Moulin and continue along the path towards Moulin de la Fraite.
(18) At the junction with Route du Moulin, head west towards the campsite.
Pass in front of the Moulin de la Fraite and the campsite entrance, cross the “La Cimente” stream and take the path.
(19) After crossing the stream, at the crossroads, head north-west towards Coyron/Meussia.
(20) At the sign for “Roche Brison”, turn south towards Meussia.
From this point, you leave theGRP®® and the red mountain bike markings.
(21) At the Meussia fountain, head east towards Clairvaux.
(22) At the crossroads before the church, leave the road to Clairvaux and head south-west towards Moirans en M/Chachilla.
(23) 50 m before the D470, in the bend, turn left towards the south-east towards Coulouvre onto the path signposted “Route Forestière du Molard”.
(24) Continue due south towards Coulouvre. Be careful, the climb is quite steep!
(25) Enter Coulouvre, pass the fountain, then take the first path heading south a few metres after the last house. Keep going in this direction until you reach the forest road
(26) On the forest road, head west for a few metres, then, after the house, take the path heading south-west. Continue until you reach the Route Forestière du Mont Saint-Christophe.
(27) On the Mont Saint-Christophe Forest Road, continue north for a few metres, then turn south-west onto the mountain bike trail and the nature trail.
At the end of the trail, continue south on a steeply ascending concrete path. Follow the black mountain bike markings to the town of Moirans-en-Montagne.
(28) On Rue Pasteur, continue due south, crossing through the centre of the village past the town hall.
(29) Pass the church, then the post office, and continue straight on until you reach the roundabout.
(30) 100 m before the roundabout, cross the road and continue along the path on the left until you reach the D470, then head for the car park, keeping to the left (S/E).
