Route through the Grünewald in Luxembourg

(S/E) With your back to the car park entrance, turn right onto the forest track. At the T-junction, continue left. Go round the barrier. Ignore the^first path on the left and walk to the next one.

No markings

Take this^second forest path on your left. At the junction, continue straight ahead. At the T-junction, turn right and a little further on, turn left. Follow this forest path downwards. The path bends sharply to the left and then descends to the right. Continue downhill until you reach a wide forest path.

(1) Turn right and, a few steps further on, on your left, you will find the source of the Ernz Blanche. Continue straight ahead and, at the crossroads, carry on straight towards Schetzel. You will come to the hermitage. Turn back. Continue straight ahead at the crossroads and pass the spring again.

(1) Ignore the barely visible path on your right and, at the next clearly visible Fork in the road, turn right. Walk along the main path to a pond. Continue to the left of it. Climb up to the forest path.

(2) Turn right. Continue straight on, ignoring the side paths for 200 m. Then turn left onto the ascending path. At the wide path, turn right.

Walk along this forest path and, before the gate, take the path on your left leading under the conifers. Follow the path and turn right towards the signs. Emerge from under the trees and head down to the road.

(3) Cross with care and continue straight ahead along the path between the house and the cistern. At the top, you’ll find some Land Art sculptures; continue to the left. Then take the path on your right, go down to the road and cross with care. On the path opposite, take the^first path on the right before the gate. At the Fork in the road, turn left and then turn right until you reach a junction.

(4) Continue to the right. Ignore the path on your right and head left towards the picnic table with La Croix de la Femme Morte. Take the path with a gate, to the left of the cross.

Walk along this wide path, marked by white cairns numbered SM 1782. At the junction with the picnic table, turn right.

Follow this fitness trail path until you reach a Fork in the road.

(5) Turn left and head downhill. At the bottom, continue to the left. Then follow the path to the right and keep to the left. At the next junction, with the Prince Henri Oak, continue straight ahead. At the junction, continue to the left until you reach a Fork in the road.

(6) Keep right towards Helmsange. Go downhill, go round the barrier and turn right. At the road, cross carefully and continue to the right. Take the path with the steps on your left. At the top, on the forest track, continue to the left.

(7) At the path, turn left. At the Fork in the road, keep left. Pass through a gate and enter the Sonnebierg Nature Reserve. Go downhill and pass through another gate. At the bottom, at the steps, turn right and go back up. Pass through a gate.

(8) At the crossroads, turn left. Before the house, turn right onto the small wooden bridge. Go up and, at the steps, turn left to see the bed of the Dauwebuer Spring waterfall. Then turn right and climb the steps on your left. Walk over the waterfall. Continue up the steps and, at the top, turn right until you reach the multi-way junction.

(9) Turn right onto the path edged by a log. Pass in front of Raschpëtzer, a gallery located beneath Qanat -5. Further down, discover the Romischer spring. Descend near the intermediate basin and turn left. Discover the Qanatwasserloch reservoir. Retrace your steps and climb back up to the multi-way junction.

(9) Now turn right and head towards the green concrete cylinders, which are the closure forms for the qanats. At Qanat -4, you’ll find a window with a button that allows you to switch on the light inside and view the diversion channel. At the junction, continue straight ahead. Climb the stairs. At the top, turn right, then immediately left, and walk to the crossroads.

(10) Continue straight ahead and discover Qanat 5. Here too, you can switch on the light inside; the system is separate. Take the stairs behind the Qanat. Continue straight ahead along the path. After the Qanats, turn right at the junction. At the crossroads, turn left and look for a path on your right, marked by a post.

(11) Turn right and then take the steps on your right. Discover the Wetland, Beim Bur. Return to the steps and go straight ahead. At the path, turn right. At the gate, continue to the left. Pass through another gate. Cross the car park to the left. Continue along the path at the end of the car park. Go through the gate and look for the path on your right.

(12) Turn right onto the path. At the track, continue to the right. At the Stop sign, turn left, cross the car park and, at the end of it, take the path on the right. Walk through the dense trees. Come out onto a slightly wider path and, at the Fork in the road, turn right towards the car park. Discover a piece of Land Art. Cross the car park to the left and continue along the path near the sign. At the junction, turn right. Walk to the sculptures you passed on the way there. Walk down to the road.

(3) Cross with care and rejoin the path climbing up the embankment and entering the coniferous trees. Continue straight ahead. Emerge from under the trees and continue straight on to the car park (S/E).

Benches: at (1), at the Hermitage, by the pond, above the steps before (7), between (7) and (8), at the Dauwebuer spring before (9), after (9) at the foot of the Romischer spring, at the Beim Bur Wetland at (11), before (12), after (12), after the car park with the Land Art installation.

No drinking water along the route.

No major difficulties, just a few steeper climbs.
