Via Soum de Cassiet and Soum de Rut from Ance

A short, easy walk that can be combined with the Soum d’Aulis, or, alternatively, shortened by descending via the road from the Soum de Rut. Beautiful views of the Pyrenees from the summit.

Description of the walk

Follow the Ance road, turn left before the church (coming from Oloron), and park after the bridge over the Vert.

(S/E) From the wayside cross, head to the household waste recycling point and take the road on the left

(1) Turn left at the bridge and follow the road to the end (flat section).

(2) Follow the path, which is circular, until it joins another path.

(3) Turn right and continue straight on to the summit of Soum de Cassiet.

(4) Retrace your steps to the fork.

(3) Turn right and take the path towards the summit of Soum de Rut.

(5) Take the Route Forestière d'Ance towards the Chicorp farm.

(6) Just before the farm, turn right down the winding path leading to the Pedro farm.

(7) Continue along the road leading to the car park (S/E).

The Mail Arrouy, or Rocher Rouge, towers over the Oloron plain from a height of 1,250 m. Although the route is well-known, it is rarely used, physically demanding and the landscape is rather wild... That is the price you pay to admire this beautiful region! Recommended for experienced hikers only.
