Park in the square just past the castle.
(S/E) With your back to the car park, follow the road on the right heading south-east.
(1) At the roundabout opposite the sandstone cross, turn right and leave the two roads on your right.
(2) 30 metres from the road, take the path on the right just past the house, and follow it for about 800 metres. At the first junction, turn left onto the path leading towards the D57.
(3) Enter Fresnicourt-le-Dolmen and, at the junction with the D57, turn right, walk past the town hall and take the first road on the left towards the church, before the Y-junction. Turn left onto the path marked in yellow.
(4) At the junction with the D57, opposite the wayside cross and the isolated farm, cross carefully and follow Rue du Dolmen straight ahead, passing the ‘Table aux Fées’. At the next crossroads, turn left heading north.
(5) Back on the D57, facing the sandstone wayside cross, turn right into Verdrel; leave the path on your right and take the track between the two roads on the left, just behind the bus stop. Follow the road to a square.
(6) When you reach the roundabout-shaped square, opposite the Protestant church, take the second road on the right. At the junction with a crossroads, turn right and then left at the next junction. Leave the road on your right and continue until you reach a Reformed church.
(7) At the Reformed church, turn right onto the yellow-marked path on the right between two houses and, at the next junction, take the left-hand path until you reach a crossroads. Continue straight on.
(8) At the water tower, take the path on the left and follow it for about 700 m until you reach the forest track.
(9) At the forest track, turn right, ignore the paths on the right and left, cross the D57E3 and continue north-west for approximately 1,500 metres.
(10) At the bend to the right, at the 150-metre mark, take the path on the left and follow theGR®® south-south-west. Pass the first path on the left and take the next one on the right heading north-west.
(11) At the crossroads of paths, turn left and walk uphill for 100 m until you reach the road. Follow it to the left, then turn left again. Walk past the buildings of the Forêt d’Olhain leisure park, follow the road to the clearing and go round it on the right until you reach the paragliding launch site. A stop to take in the view is a must. Join the path near the forest via theGR®®127and the Via Francigena.
(12) At theGR®®127path, follow it through the forest – marked with red and white signs – for about 2,600 metres. You’ll go round the golf course. At the bottom ofthe GR®®127, at the junction with the D57E3, turn right and follow the road for about 350 metres.
(13) After the golf course car park, take the path on the right; then, at the next Y-junction, follow the path on the left and, after 200 m, turn left again. Follow the road; at the crossroads, turn left and return to your starting point (S/E)
Very pleasant hike with lovely views. Lots of laughter 🤣 due to the very slippery terrain and fun slopes. To be repeated in milder weather.
