Description of the walk

Car park located at the foot of the village of Orchimont, on the site of the old local railway station, Rue de la Semois, 5550 Vresse-sur-Semois.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the old local road for 250 m to the stone bridge spanning the stream.

(1) Leave the path on the left to cross the bridge below. Follow the stream for 300 m along its right bank.

(2) Cross to the left bank of the stream using the footbridge and take the path that climbs to the left. As you climb, the path gradually moves away from the stream and then, at the top, bends to the right. 100m further on (Trifour), take the path on the left through the meadows and fields. Continue straight on; the path becomes a track and then a tarmac road, reaching the village of Nafraiture via Rue du Charme.

(3) In the centre of the village, turn left onto Rue Sainte-Anne, go round the church on the right and continue along the tarmac road for 800m. After a bend, turn left between two meadows at the edge of a wood.

(4) As soon as you enter the woods, at the fork, turn right towards the east. At the end of the path, at a large crossroads, turn right towards the north-east. Continue until you reach the N935, at a place called "Au Nué", after going round a large field of Christmas trees.

(5) Cross the N935 and take the forest track opposite, which runs downhill to the left. After 200m, at the fork opposite a pasture, turn left and continue uphill. The track runs alongside meadows then a field of Christmas trees and descends into a wood.

(6) 400m further on, near the ponds and a small chalet on the left, cross the stream and, at the fork, head straight up into a deciduous woodland.

(7) At the end of the forest track, at a place called "Trou Maillet", just before the Belgian-French border, turn left (signposted "Barrière de Mointerne, Croupet, Nafraiture").

(8) After 1 km, the forest track turns sharply left. Leave it and continue straight on, along the border, on the path slightly off the main track.

(9) When you reach Barrière de Mointerne (sign saying “Ici la France”), take the N935 to the right for 400m, then the forest track to the left.

(10) At the end of the forest track, at the crossroads, take the path furthest to the right and continue downhill following the GR®. The path bends to the left and the descent becomes steeper. Before reaching the bottom of the woods, pass a hairpin bend to the right, cross the Ruisseau de Nûssau and then climb up the other side of the valley.

(11) TheGR® reaches the right bank of the Ruisseau de Nafraiture and crosses it several times (use the footbridges).

(2) Continue along the right bank of the stream, cross it at the stone bridge and head back up the old village track.

(1) Turn right and continue to the car park (S/E).
