Description of the walk

Getting there by public transport ...

(S) In front of the station building, turn left and walk down Bahnhofstraße, which becomes Neckarsteinacher Straße, curves to the right and crosses the Laxbach (also known as Lachsbach).

You will reach Hauptstraße, cross it with caution and walk into the old town on the other side.

(1) Passing various shops, restaurants and ice cream parlours, continue straight ahead past the market square and the parish church of St. Maria Immaculata and turn left into Klostergasse.

(2) Between house numbers 20 and 22, the path to the castle branches off to the left. Follow the narrow path uphill and after a while you will reach the gatekeeper's house of Hirschhorn Castle. The grounds of the castle are freely accessible and can be visited.

Walk through the gate and turn right onto a narrow path at the car park (look for the blue curved N of the Neckarsteig trail). The path continues uphill in a series of switchbacks.

You will come to a forest path on a bend, but leave it immediately and keep to the right. Here you will see two signposts to help you find your way: the familiar blue N and the red R for the Rechter Neckarrandweg.

After a while, you will come to another forest path, cross it and continue straight ahead on the other side (blue N).

(3) On your right, you will reach a viewpoint offering a view of the Neckar Valley and Hirschhorn. Continue straight ahead until you come to a forest path. Follow this to the right.

(4) The climb is now a little gentler until you reach the Hoppe hut. This is a good place to take a break.

(5) At the next fork, keep right and walk towards the Steinerner Tisch, a rest area built in 1797 for hunting parties.

(6) Continue to the left towards Igelsbach (blue N). Pass under a high-voltage power line, turn sharp right at the next fork and then sharp left again shortly afterwards.

At the next fork, turn sharp right again, cross a path and you will cross from the state of Hesse into Baden-Württemberg.

The path takes you above Igelsbach in a large arc around the Tannenkopf mountain (orientation: blue N).

(7) After another hairpin bend to the right, you will reach the Waldklassenzimmer e.V. building on your right. At the next T-junction, continue to the right.

Your route now runs parallel to the stream through the Gretengrund. At the next intersection, turn left and leave the stream.

In a left-hand bend, a narrow path branches off to the right. At the fork immediately after, keep left.

The downhill path meets a forest road. Turn sharp left here and a few metres later, continue downhill in a hairpin bend to the right until you reach the railway line.

Here you will rejoin the Rechter Neckarrandweg (red R) and follow it to the left along the Böser Berg road, cross the Gammelsbach stream and reach the B45.

Cross this with caution and walk up the asphalt path on the right on the other side, in front of the sandstone wall.

After a while, you will come to a fork and turn sharply left onto the narrow path. Follow this path, keep right at the next fork and walk through the forest until you reach a wider path. Follow this path to the right towards Eberbach.

At the next fork, keep left. You are now walking above the first houses of Eberbach along the edge of the forest.

(8) Turn right onto a narrow path. This leads you downhill and past the Hohenstaufen Gymnasium to the "Parallelweg". Here, turn left.

(E) Once you have passed the sports hall, you can already see Eberbach railway station. Now cross the Itter and Wilhelm-Blos-Straße and you have reached the end of this stage.
