Montagne de la Clavelière and the summit of La Vanige

In Saint-Auban-sur-l'Ouvèze, park in the car park at the entrance to the village. The car park is on the right, right next to the wash house (there is a sign).

(S/E) From the wash house at the far end of the car park, turn right onto the^GR®91, which descends via a wide track along the banks of the Ouvèze, then continue to the bridge.

(1) Turn left and cross the bridge. Follow the tarmac road in the middle to continue on the^GR®91. The road quickly turns into a track suitable for vehicles after passing the houses.
At the junction, continue straight on along the tarmac road towards the Pouzet farm.

(2) At the sign for “Le Pouzet”, turn left towards Col des Arros, continuing on the^GR®91. You will soon find yourself on a narrow, ascending path. Ignore all the small side paths you encounter (poorly marked tracks) to stay on the^GR®91.

(3) At the “Combe Saisse” sign, continue right on the^GR®91towards Gifort and Montferrand Lafare.
You’ll reach a wide, track suitable for vehicles. Continue to Gifort, ignoring the two turn-offs to the left.

(4) At the “Gifort” sign, continue straight on along the track via the^GR®91, heading towards the Col du Rocher Percé.

(5) Cross the Ennuye and continue along the track to the pass.

(6) At the “Col du Rocher Percé” sign, turn right to continue on the^GR®91. After a few hundred metres, the track turns into a narrow path. After about 120m, ignore the turn-off to the right and turn left. The^GR®91markings are much less obvious on the way to the summit of La Vanige. The slope becomes steeper and rockier as you approach the ridge. A small cross marks the summit of La Vanige.

(7) Turn right onto the ridges. There are no^GR® markings; follow the faded yellow^PR® markings.
Head back down the track to the Col de Corbière, ignoring the two turn-offs to the right.

(8) At the “Col de Corbière” sign, turn left towards Varrians, following the^GR® (dual markings present: red/white and yellow). Follow the track round the Rocher de Corbière to the Croisement des Auches.

(9) At the “Croisement des Auches” sign, turn right. The markings change to yellow only. The track is relatively clear and wide. Continue along this track to the “Les Turcs” sign (a ruin and a restored building).

(10) Go straight on, towards Sous le Rocher Blanc, following the yellow markings. After 600m, you cross a scree slope (a storm stream). Two small footbridges have been built to facilitate the crossing. Continue along the track to the “Sous le Rocher Blanc” sign. At the only junction you come to, ignore the paths leading off to the left and right.

(11) At the “Sous le Rocher Blanc” sign, turn right towards Croix de Roussieux, following the yellow markings. The track climbs again. At the first junction where it crosses a wider track, turn right then immediately left. The start of the path runs alongside a boxwood hedge on both sides. The slope is steep in places, with the path climbing in hairpin bends. Continue along the track (sparsely marked with yellow signs) until you reach the Croix de Roussieux. Ignore the only path branching off to the left during the climb.

(12) At the Croix de Roussieux, take the hairpin bend to the right to follow the ridges of the Montagne de la Clavelière along a single-track path. The yellow markings are very sparse. Continue to the Col de Haute Huche.

(13) At the “Col de Haute Huche” sign, turn left onto a very wide grassy path that descends.

(14) At the junction, turn left, then continue along the track. After 600m, ignore the turn-off to the right and continue along this track until the next junction with a wooden sign marked “Borne 208”.

(15). At "Borne 208", turn right to follow the yellow markings. Leave the track and take a small path that descends to the right.

(16) At the junction, turn left and continue along the small path that descends, following the yellow markings. The track leads to a small field of lavender at the Col des Aros (farm 200m away). Turn right to walk alongside this field of lavender.

(17) At the junction with a wide, motorable track, take this track to the right. Yellow markings, faint.
Ignore the turn-off to the right after 150m and the second turn-off to the right after 500m. Head downhill along this track for about 1.5 km to reach the Pouzet farm.

(2) At "Le Pouzet", turn left and follow the path in the opposite direction to return to the village of Saint-Auban-sur-l'Ouvèze. Follow the^GR®91to reach the wash house car park (S/E).

There are no water sources along the entire route.
The highest point is 1,391m (summit of La Vanige) and not 1,360m.
There may be animals roaming freely on the ridges of Montagne de la Clavelière.
