Starting point: the athletics stadium, Avenue du Clos; free car parking available.
(S/E) Set off with the athletics stadium behind you until you reach the crossroads.
(1) Turn left onto the first road, Chemin de l’Estre. After walking alongside the motorway, continue to the end of this road.
(2) Turn right twice in quick succession and go under the motorway bridge. Continue along Chemin du Roucas Troucas, pass number 373 and you’ll come to a fork in the road.
(3) Turn right, cross the bridge – flanked by two vertical green railings on either side – ignore Chemin de la Rourède on the right and start up a short, stony climb which turns into a dirt track; follow the track to the junction opposite a building.
(4) Turn right and then left at the next junction, at a place called Einesi. Continue downhill, then turn right to join the departmental road at the end of Chemin de la Bastide de Castel.
(5) Carry on to the left, crossing the bridge over the Ruisseau du Cavalier (white and blue signs on either side of the road). Follow the departmental road and cross the fairly narrow iron bridge over the Aille. Watch out for oncoming traffic at the junction. Continue for about 200 m until you reach the first left-hand bend.
(6) Turn right downhill onto the Chemin de Bérard. At the next Fork in the road, turn left and head due south for about 1 km.
(7) At the junction with the water tank, turn left onto the track heading south-east and follow it. At the end, turn left to quickly reach a fork in the track and another fire tank.
(8) Walk past the tank on your right, then head back up the track on the left, heading due north, until you reach a road (D72).
(9) Head right, ignore a road on the left, pass through the hamlet of La Bastide Rouge, and reach the next track on the left with a fire hydrant.
(10) Take this track and ignore the various turnings to the right and left. Continue along the tarmac road until you reach a junction with a fire hydrant.
(11) Turn left, follow the D72 towards Plan de la Tour. Follow the Ruisseau du Langastoua, pass the hamlet of Langoustoua then a small lake on your right, and reach a track junction on the left.
(12) Take this track and follow the Ruisseau de Règue Courte uphill. At the next junction, turn left and continue climbing (Piste des Pommiers). At the small pass, turn left and you’ll soon reach a fork (Piste de Castel Diaou) with a fire tank on your right.
(13) Continue to the right, ignoring two track heads on the right, until you reach the next fork – with a fire tank – a few metres past the entrance to a farm.
(14) Turn left just before the fire tank and, at the next junction, turn left again. Ignore the entrance to the farm and head north-west until you reach a multi-way junction.
(15) Continue along thesecond track on the left, almost directly opposite (Piste des Bauquières), and head downhill to the Pont d’Aille at the confluence of the Argens and the Aille. Cross this bridge and continue along the tarmac road, Chemin du Bac, until you reach the three-way junction after the car park.
(16) Turn left (Piste de la Tournavelle) onto the uphill track and continue to a junction with a fire hydrant (incorrectly positioned on the IGN map).
(17) Keep to the right and, at the next junction, turn right again. Follow a short circular route to reach a multi-way junction. Continue straight ahead downhill, then follow the path overlooking the River Aille on your left until you reach another multi-way junction.
(18) Turn right and immediately ignore a turn-off to the right. Continue slightly downhill and follow the track to the end, near the A8 motorway.
(19) Head left, due south, along the track which initially runs alongside the motorway, then passes in front of a ranch-style enclosure and joins a multi-way junction at a place called Ganchouresse.
(20) Turn right at the hairpin bend and head up the track, which is stony at first and then becomes a dirt track lined with pine trees. Pass under the motorway bridge and continue uphill until you emerge from the forest.
(21) At the first houses in a residential area, turn left onto Chemin du Plateau, then left again onto Chemin de la Savoie, until you find yourself facing the motorway. Turn right (Chemin du Peyloubier Nord) and carry on straight ahead until you reach Chemin de l’Estré on the left, which you passed on the way out.
(2) Take this road and follow the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey until you reach the athletics stadium on Avenue du Clos (S/E).
